Dr. Alexandra Elizabeth Read, MD

Dr Read performed my Colonoscopy and when I woke up from the procedure, I experienced the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. It was like my whole body was on fire and the pain extended from the lower part of my body to my neck, chest and back. I was horrified to learn that my colon had been perforated. My wife drove me to emergency and I spent three days in the hospital fearing that I would need colon surgery. Dr Read did not inform me that I was at higher risk of complications before the procedure and her after procedure patient care was atrocious.

Dr. Read, is an excellent physician... She's very caring and explains issues thoroughly ! I'd recommend her to any friends that need a good Gastroenterologist !!

The reason for the 3 star "ease of appt." was that I was on "hold" for 10 minutes when I was scheduling my original appt. for assessment.

Dr. Read is great. I would recommend her to anyone.

Had to call 4 times and write a letter to get the results of biopsies done during my endoscopy/colonoscopy, then had to wait 5 months (!!) for a followup appointment to discuss everything. When I got there I was told she was 15 min. behind, but in reality waited 45 minutes. Dr. Read is closed-minded about any option for treatment that doesn't involve medication. The idea that a digestive issue can't be helped with dietary changes is laughable. When I discussed issues I had with the office during/after my test, she was defensive and at one point even angry at me. No apologies for anything, including the 5 month wait. I will not return to this office.

Had a colonoscopy done. Everything I had read online said the worst part was the prep. since you're sedated during the entire procedure. Well, NOT in my case. She inserted the probe while I was still awake. Had a long enough conversation with her to tell her that it was really painful to which she replied that sometimes making the turns in your intestines can be tricky. After more painful squirming, she finally told one of her assistants to give me more sedation. So much for painless! I thought given her experience, she'd ensure that her patient was truly ready before beginning the procedure!!!The waiting time in the waiting room was short for both the initial and colonoscopy visit, but the wait in the exam room for the initial visit was unacceptable - about 30 minutes with no explanation/updates or apologies for the delay. I still went forward with her falsely believing that her expertise would more than make up for her bedside manners. Big, painful mistake.
