Dr. Nisali Anuradha Gunawardane, MD

Kind and compassionate! Wish all doctors were like her!

I have seen Dr. Gunawardane twice, and I have been deeply disappointed by her level of care and her knowledge of her field twice. Although I waited many months to see her, she never seemed to have time to focus on my issue, symptoms, medical history, or to answer my questions. During both appointments and one phone call, Dr. Gunawardane interrupted me constantly, very often wrongly anticipating what I would say or ask. I would listen to these irrelevant answers to questions that I did not ask politely, but afterward she would not have the patience to return to my actual question. After two abnormal EEGs, she wanted me to do a third test, which she obviously billed my insurance for, just to confirm the abnormality seen in the first two EEGs. When this third EEG showed the same abnormal result for a third time, she and/or her office never got in touch with me to let me know the results or to follow up with a treatment plan or appointment. At times, she acted like I was imagining my… symptoms. Multiple times, she said it was probably just related to pregnancy (I have never been pregnant), anxiety (I am not anxious), or carpel tunnel syndrome. She was proven wrong on these assumptions based on my test results, but her attitude never changed. She told me that she has many patients who are sicker than me in response to one of my medical questions. She never followed up on the things she said she would follow up on, and she left me feeling marginalized and like my neurological health was of little consequence to her. If you need a neurologist, you deserve better care than what Dr. Gunawardane will provide you with based on my experience.

I highly recommend Dr. G. I found her to be quite knowledgeable. Her exam was thorough, and she explained her treatment plan in an easy to understand manner. The appointment never felt rushed, and all of my questions were answered.
