Dr. K Mirkin is the very best surgeon in St Louis. She will provide expert care and will not operate on you unless the procedure is indicated. If you're having surgery at Mercy, make sure you make your appointment with Dr K Mirkin!!!!

Bottom line: Dr. Mirkin outright told me THAT SHE DOESN"T BELIEVE THAT I'M EXPERIENCING MY SYMPTOMS. Full Story: I went to Dr. Mirkin after being referred by a gastroenterologist because I was regurgitating stomach acid into my mouth at night and aspirating it into my lungs, which resuults in some pretty severe discomfort, lack of sleep, significant dental erosion, etc. I would often cough for hours and have on more than one occasion been unable to care for my crying infant daughter because I can't breathe or even stand through the coughing. We start the meeting with her telling me that she has seen my test results and doesn't think I need surgery. This seemed to me like it could have been a phone call and a cancelled appointment, but either way I appreciate her being upfront and still being willing to talk to me afterwards. It turns out she doesn't have half of my test results which I had sent to Mercy, but that is more Mercys failing than hers. No issues with Dr. Mirkin yet. I… proceed to tell her that I'm not surprised the tests performed on an empty stomach, sitting upright, in the morning don't show much regarding my issue which presents on a full stomach, at night, when prone. At this point I only want to know where to go next. I have a meeting with a medical professional, regardless if its in her specialty I'm having severe discomfort, a primary care physician and gastroenterologist BOTH recommend seeing a surgeon, so I don't know where to go from here if this path is closed. She refuses to speak to anything other than the fact that the few test results she can see are normal and to reitorate that she is not going to do the surgery. If she refuses to speak outside of that area, I'm even more confused as to why this wasn't a phonecall and a cancelled appointment? Still Mercy scheduling is a pain so thats not unforgivable, but I press her and she outright tells me THAT SHE DOESN"T BELIEVE THAT I'M EXPERIENCING MY SYMPTOMS. Speaking as the person who fell asleep on the tile bathroom floor with a pool of mucus reeking of bile in front of my face two nights earlier, this was unacceptable to hear.

Dr. KM is a fantastic bariatric and general surgery expert! Demand an appointment with her. You will not regret!!!!??

Dr. Mirkin is hands down the best bariatric surgeon in the St. Louis area! She was PHENOMENAL through my journey and has transformed my life. I could never thank her enough.
