Dr. Khizar Ahsan, MD

I was referred to Dr. Ahsan by my PCP because I’ve had IBS for 18 years, but symptoms have become extreme with numerous new severe food intolerances. He listened somewhat and asked me questions, but didn’t allow me to answer completely. At one point, cut me off and said I shouldn’t read on the internet. There’s no connection between bacteria imbalance and IBS and it’s all in my head. I should meditate 10-15 minutes every day before rising. He also said that my personality was the cause of my IBS. Seriously! This man had just met me. After telling him I didn’t want prescription drugs, he told me he’d write me one for something mild, “you won’t get addicted”, but didn’t say what it was. He said, “You take it for 3 weeks and see how you feel, then come back to see me.” I said ok and went out to the front office to wait another 20 minutes, just to get checked out. I learned from the front desk that the prescription was for an antidepressant!! I told them there would be no need… for a follow up appt. My appt was 2:00, I arrived 5 minutes late and there were 13 people in the waiting room. I was still waiting in the exam room at 3:25 and finally left the office at 4:20. Truly believe the long wait was due to overbooking patients and based on his reviews, it seems like a pattern. I will not return.

His staff doesn't answer the phone so hard to verify appt. answering service takes message and doesn't return the Call my husband could have save a trip to McAllen found out his appt. had been a day before needs better staff

I had an appointment to see him at 10 o'clock .got there with plenty of time .and there were 15 people ahead of me .I think they should work on their appointments a little bit better. I think that was very unprofessional of them .

My mom almost died from a deadly bacteria (C-Diff)because dr claimed the symptoms were all in her head. Referred her to a psychiatrist. We took her to ER and a stool sample showed she was septic from the bacteria.

Excellent physician.

Very competent on a professional and personal basis.
