On Friday, February 7th, at 2:30 PM, I had a pre-scheduled virtual appointment with Dr. Pham. As a full-time educator, I specifically arranged this consultation during my designated lunch break to accommodate my professional obligations. Dr. Pham failed to uphold this appointment.
I waited until 2:38 PM, at which point I attempted to contact the office via phone. No one answered. Recognizing the administrative oversight, I subsequently sent a text message to notify them of my continued presence and expectation of service. Still, no response was provided. Given my professional responsibilities, I was compelled to return to work.
More than an hour and a half later, at 3:54, 3:55, and 3:56 PM, I received three successive phone calls from the office. However, as an educator, I am prohibited from using my phone during instructional hours, rendering me unable to answer. Instead of demonstrating professional accountability, the office shifted the blame onto me, stating, “Our records showed… we tried to call three times, but you did not pick up your phone.”
When I was finally able to access my device, I reiterated via text that my appointment was scheduled for 2:30 PM, not 3:54 PM, and that I had made a reasonable attempt to reach their office to no avail. My concern was met not with an apology, remediation, or an offer to reschedule at a mutually convenient time, but with an abrupt and entirely unprofessional dismissal. The office manager’s response was both patronizing and disingenuous, stating:
"We are sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with your experience. We understand that finding the right care is important, and we encourage you to seek out another PCP who may be better suited to meet your needs. At this time, we must respectfully inform you that we will be unable to continue providing care as your provider moving forward."
This response exemplifies multiple ethical and professional failures, including but not limited to:
Breach of Professional Duty – Physicians and their offices have an obligation to honor scheduled appointments or, at minimum, notify patients of unavoidable delays in a timely manner. This office did neither.
Failure of Due Diligence in Patient Communication – The inability to reach the office when I proactively attempted contact is indicative of serious administrative dysfunction.
Negligent Appointment Management – The decision to call over an hour and a half after the scheduled time without prior notice demonstrates a lack of procedural integrity and respect for patients’ time.
Deflection of Accountability – Rather than acknowledging their own failure to maintain the agreed-upon schedule, the office engaged in reprehensible blame-shifting.
Unilateral and Arbitrary Termination of Care – Instead of engaging in professional conflict resolution, the office chose to summarily dismiss me as a patient, a decision that could potentially constitute patient abandonment under certain medical board regulations.
It is deeply concerning that a healthcare provider would so brazenly disregard fundamental standards of professionalism, accountability, and patient-centered care. This experience has unequivocally eroded any trust in this practice, and I will never return.
For those seeking reliable, ethical, and patient-oriented medical care, I strongly advise against this provider. A medical office that fails to respect appointments, ignores patient communications, and arbitrarily terminates care without due cause is one best avoided.
