Dr. Ahmad Shabsigh, MD

After being diagnosed with stage 4 urethral cancer, another surgeon had foolishly placed a latex catheter in my urethra, while I was under anesthesia, without me prior consent. I was SUPPOSED to be having only a cytoscope done that day. The other surgeon SHOULD have placed a Supra stomach bag exit for the urine. AND I am allergic to latex, which is in all my medical charts since the 1980's!! And the latex catheter was routed around the cancer, exacerbating it non-stop. So I needed a surgeon to remove the latex catheter and REPLACE it with a Supra stomach bag exit. Another surgeon referred me to Shabsigh to do this very thing (remove the catheter and perform the Supra surgery). Shabsigh's office made me an appointment for what he called a "pre-op" appointment to get the catheter removed AND the supra placed. But when I got to the appointment, I found he'd used FALSE PRETENSES to get me there. He said he was "all booked up" for several months and that he couldn't be bothered… to do the Supra stomach bag exit. But he AGREED that the latex catheter HAD to be removed right away. So the only option he gave me was for him to remove the latex catheter and replace it with a silicone catheter "until I could find someone" who wasn't supposedly booked up to do the Supra surgery. I agreed, but of course I assumed he would be anesthesizing me or at LEAST giving some form of pain relief, numbing, or even local pain relief. But NOOOOO!!!! He horrifically removed the latex catheter from me WITHOUT ANY form of pain relief or anethesia. The latex catheter had ADHERED to my very tender internal cancerous urethral skin as well as to the bladder. So he had to tug and pull it often to get it to come out. Worse? the bulbous end of the catheter (the balloon-like structure) had calcified extremely and had several sharp protrusions of calcified hard matter in pointed shape on it. It felt like knives coming out. This calcified bulb he raked through my cancer and tender urethral tissue on the way out also. I bled profusely. I screamed numerous times begging him to stop and to give me something for pain. He instead SMILED and told me to breathe properly and that would supposedly help the pain. There is NO excuse for him to have treated me that way. He COULD have given SOME form of pain relief! It was horrific what happened. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. If he had done that to a dog or animal he would be in jail for it! On top of the fact it was false pretenses to get me there, claimng it was a "pre-op" appointment, when he never intended TO perform any operation/surgery. He (his staff) COULD have told me that he was supposedly "all booked up" and wouldn't be able to perform the Supra surgery. They could have informed me of this on the phone so I could have been looking to get into a surgeon who would perform the Supra surgery. Maybe that's how they do things in Aleppo, Syria, where he got his "training". But things like this should NOT happen in the USA. I do NOT recommend him. I gave him 1 star, but he deserves a negative 10 stars.

Everything golden from start to end of my cancer treatment. It had been literally years that I had been treated by Dr. and staff that actually showed care and compassion.

After a psa increase in two months from 14 to 40 he wanted to see me back in six months. If I had not been hospitalized several weeks later at another hospital beside osu I might have been dead in six months. At the new hospital I was found to have advanced prostrate cancer.

Dr Shabsigh is a GREAT oncologist/surgeon, and has been nothing short of spectacular. My diagnosis came from no where, but Dr. Shabsigh and his team has steared me through this tough time from performing my surgery, to also being my oncologist. I would recommend him to anyone - OSU James is LUCKY to have him.
