Dr. Aimee Joy Szewka, MD

Dr. Szewka is very caring and has a very personable communication style. She will spend as much time with you as necessary and she even studies her patients problems in her off hours. I always enjoyed her commentary and insight.

I went to Rush on my scheduled day to see a neurologist,but they had no record of my appt. They told me to wait,and in 5 min. I got Dr. Szewka. Boy, did I luck out! She took the time to listen to me ,checked me thoroughly,told me what she thought about my neuropathy,and also saw that I had cervical radiculopathy . My last neurologist just asked how I was doing,did a few reflex hits on me,typed something in his comp. and that was it,all of 5 min! If you have a neurological problem,and would like somebody to take the time to listen to you,go see Dr. Szewka.

She was great during out visit, very thorough, kind, warm, never judgmental, etc. The next day went out of town for the week. She called the Monday after my MRI (Friday) to give me results and said there would be a doctor covering her if I had any questions. I followed up with my insurance to make sure I was good for treatment and struggled finding out if she specifically was covered by my insurance in-network. In the next 8 business days I couldn't get confirmation from the nurse, hospital, office, billing, physician referral line about the network status, though the website said my insurance was accepted, I was worried when BCBS was. -I know this is something I should have been thorough about before scheduling, but this is the first time I have ever had a major medical situation; so, this was my learning curve.- The day before I was going into the hospital for a week long in-patient treatment, she had her nurse return my call and tell me that the hospital signs her… checks and she had no more information on the insurance status. Thankfully, the attending I would be working with at the hospital was full-blown in-network covered. So, if you want a doctor that is great for your brain and you are too wealthy to worry or have 100% coverage anywhere insurance I would say four stars. For me, I say two because I need a more holistic approach, what is improved if symptoms are better but my life is ruined with bills. I will be waiting for her bill before scheduling my next appointment or asking for a in-network peer she could recommend.
