I came to Mountain View Emergency clinic when I was worried about unnatural swelling in my arm and extreme soreness. I was greeted by the desk clerk kindly but waited 30 minutes to be seen, not the biggest deal. I waited another hour to be seen by the worst doctor I have ever encountered, Alexander Cianflone. He walked into the room and the first thing he said was “You have bursitis”. I was taken aback because he had not asked me about a single symptom, he just walked in with his mind made that it was bursitis. I was 99% confident that it wasn’t bursitis as I am extremely familiar with the condition (my dad has it). He asked if I had hit anything multiple times and I REPEATED assured him that I didn’t hit it on anything! His response was “oh…..well it’s still bursitis. Have you been taking Ibuprofen and icing?” I confirmed I had and that there was zero change in the swelling. His response was “well just take more Ibuprofen”. I had MAJOR concerns that my actual diagnosis was… Rhabdomyolysis, a critical condition that can quickly cause kidney failure if not caught. I voiced my concerns and his response was a simple “its not Rhabdo”. I asked how he knows and he said “its not Rhabdo”. Again, I asked how he could possibly know that without a blood test, his response “its not Rhabdo its Bursitis. If you were my own family member I would tell you the exact same thing. Go home and ice and take Ibuprofen”. I was shocked and scared because I was very sure it was Rhabdo. The next morning I got bloodwork done at Mountain View Hospital and the tests confirmed it was Rhabdo. My CK levels were at 7,000 when normal levels are about 100. I was hospitalized for THREE DAYS. If I hadn’t trusted my gut instinct I could have gone into kidney failure. Unbelievable that he would send a scared patient away without even ruling that out first. Will NEVER come back and he needs to lose his license.
