Dr. Alexandra K. Schwartz, MD

I'm October 2023, I suffered a displaced fracture of the humerus in my shoulder. This happened while my Scan Medicare Advantage plan was contracted with Scripps. On January 1, 2024, my plan switched to UCSD and I was assured that my orthopedic care would continue. My January 2024 appointment with the Scripps orthopedist was cancelled because they no longer accepted Scan patients. I made an appointment with Dr. Alexandra Schwartz at UCSD Hillcrest in February, having had X-rays the week before. I told the office when making the appointment that I needed continued orthopedic care and gave them the name and phone number of the Scripps orthopedist that I had seen. My Scan insurance had approved the referral to Dr. Schwartz. I only had 4 physical therapy appointments before the insurance change. I expected Dr. Schwartz to check my range of motion, mechanics of the broken shoulder, flexibility, strength, determine if more PT needed, etc. I arrived on time at the appointment and was told… that Dr. Schwartz decided she wasn't going to see me, that my appointment was cancelled and the office "forgot" to call me in advance to let me know. The receptionist would not answer any questions. I was told Dr. Schwartz was an orthopedic surgeon and wouldn't see me. I told her I needed continued medical care for a fractured shoulder bone. I was met with a blank stare, then told there was nothing more she could do and that any questions should be directed my primary care physician. I'm appalled and insulted that this office treated me so poorly. They showed a complete lack of sensitivity and empathy to my situation and wasted my time. I left their office feeling dejected and humiliated as all this occurred while other patients in the waiting room were watching and hearing. I wouldn't recommend this medical office to anyone, for any reason. There is no patient "care" in this medical office. This office actually deserves zero stars. Shame on you, Dr. Schwartz.

In March, I took a tumble when I tripped over a gopher hole, and fractured my Right Humerus (upper arm bone). I feel absolutely blessed to been referred to Dr. Schwartz. This woman is a gift to the medical profession and humanity in general. I am familiar with the medical profession and a little particular about who treats me and how. From the minute I met Dr. Schwartz I knew that I was in good hands and could trust her - she is professional, she is personable, she is one brilliant surgeon. The Advanced Practice RN, Maureen Benetti who works with Dr. Schwartz adds to the superior quality of care this practice provides every day. THANK YOU
