Dr. Alireza Mirmiran, MD

Unfortunately, we had a bad experience with Dr. Mirmiran. My mother went to the hospital for some scans for suspected cancer. Early in the morning, before I was able to get to her, Mirmiran came in and told her she had 6 months to live. She had nobody with her when she learned of her diagnosis. While she was attempting to absorb what she had just learned, Mirmiran told her that they were going to start full brain radiotherapy. She was too stunned to argue or ask any questions. On the day of her fourth treatment, she decided to stop radiation. When she told Mirmiran of her decision and explained that she thought her definition of quality of life and his definition were not the same, he was condescending. He finally said, "I guess it is what it is," he left the room and slammed the door. Although his bio on the Methodist Healthcare site states, "He aims to treat patients with a cheerful demeanor," we did not experience that side of him. He is quoted on the same page saying, “There… is always reason for hope, and a positive attitude can often lift a patient’s spirits." I hope he learns how to employ that attitude some day.
