More about Dr. Allan S Lieberthal
Welcome to my Web page. I am a pediatrician who specializes in pediatric pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, and asthma. I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 1976. Biography I grew up in Chicago and moved to Los Angeles in 1971 after graduating from medical school. I attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. I then received my pediatric training at the Los Angeles County Hospital + USC Medical Center, where I was also chief resident in the pediatrics department. I have taught at the Los Angeles County Hospital, the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, and the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. I am a clinical professor of pediatrics at the USC Keck School of Medicine. I am also a former president of the Southern California chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. About my practice I am a pediatric pulmonologist and director of the Kaiser Permanente Southern California Cystic Fibrosis Center, which is recognized by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as an affiliate center. We work as a team of two pediatric pulmonologists, a center coordinator, a respiratory therapist, a dietitian, and a social worker. We provide comprehensive care for all Southern California Kaiser Permanente children with cystic fibrosis. We also provide consultation services for all pediatric pulmonary diseases using a team concept of care. We specialize in the care of children with asthma. I also have a full general pediatric practice. I believe in providing high-quality care using the best current knowledge available. I believe that parents have an inherent understanding of what is in the best interests of their child, and I try to work in a cooperative partnership with families. I believe that prevention, including immunization, is the most important aspect of pediatric care. How I thrive I am devoted to the health and well-being of children. I have four adult children and especially enjoy watching my grandchildren grow. Much of my time outside of work is also devoted to being an advocate for children. I am active in the American Academy of Pediatrics and work on many committees, mostly in the field of quality improvement. I lead programs for the American Academy of Pediatrics devoted to teaching other pediatricians best practices for care. In addition, my hobbies are photography and music, especially folk and rock music of the 1960s.
