I was in Renal failure when I became Dr. Goh’s patient. After wasting a year in “treatment” by one incompetent nephrologist and another urologist both at Methodist Hospital in Houston, I was referred to Dr. Goh by one of the technicians in the first Urologist’s office. Dr. Goh, who was also in practice in the same group as the first Urologist, took my case and ultimately saved my life. Sadly, time wasted with two bad doctors cost me my left kidney and part of my right kidney. But Dr. Goh did not give up on my case. He seemed to accept it as a challenge. His persistence and patience kept me from dying at age fifty-three. He is also very kind and inclusive. He discussed every aspect of my condition and how he planned to approach fixing the structural problem as we moved through the process. He respected my right to know what had happened to cause my problem (my ureters were cut twelve months previously by my gynecologist during my hysterectomy surgery causing scar tissue to… form, creating a blockage in both ureters) and he also kept me informed as to my numbers per creatinine and kidney function. He was sensitive to the pain I felt due to the stents that had to be put in and removed monthly in day surgeries at Methodist. Dr. Goh worked the problem as quickly as he could but also gave a lot of thought about how best to remedy my problem. He was cautious and bold at the same time. Six years after my major surgery was done, I am managing what I have left in kidney function well. I have a good nephrologist now. My only regret is that Dr. Goh was taken away from us in Houston and now practices in New York. He deserves the spotlight because he is one in a million. My advice to anyone with a urological issue who is searching for the best diagnostic skills and robotic surgical skills, don’t waste precious time on mediocrity and incompetence in other doctors as I did. Dr. Goh was the surgeon who said yes after all the others turned my loved one away with only a few months to live. Dr. Goh operated, managed every step of the recovery and cured my loved one of cancer. Dr. Goh was always available and no medical challenge intimidated him. His bedside manner is kind, compassionate and reassuring. He was the best decision we ever made. I can’t say enough. Amazing doctor.
