Dr. Alvin Perry Griffith, MD

I went in to receive help for my anxiety and depression. I was told that i was supposed to see him my first day when i came in. Didn't even speak to him till two days later (after i continuously complained to talk to him) Then when i actually saw him he was a condescending jerk who made me feel ashamed of the problems that i had been dealing with. To make things worse only talked to me for five minutes and acted like he knew everything about me. WORST PERSON YOU WILL EVER MEET!!!!!! I would have received better care from a pile of crap. If you are referred to him or he is your doctor switch right away before he makes you feel even worse about yourself. I don't know how he is allowed to practice as a physician when it is so obvious that he has no compassion for people.

Alvin historically has imposed reactionary, conservative ideologies onto patients, especially in my experience. I identify as a member of LGBTQ, and this has been met with intolerance from Alvin, which has breached into the realm of his diagnoses of me. I stopped seeing Alvin after two visits because I was so hurt by how he treated me, not only as a patient, but as a person. I strongly disapprove, especially on grounds that this is Year 2016.

He dismissed the thorough evaluation the other doctor did. He did this after spending at most 2 minutes with me. He was clearly rude to the other staff as well. My complaints about his rudeness, unprofessional behavior, and inappropriate and abrupt change in treatment fell on deaf ears when I complained to the hospital administration. The weekend covering doctor should be the one treating patients there. He spent infinitely more time withme inspite of being the only doctor covering the whole patient load. He even took time to talk to my family when he did not have to. I am not alone in my experience. All of the other patients felt the same way and I could tell the nurses felt bad about his poor work ethic and general cruel demeanor. This man must have someone inthat hospital protecting his job for him. I hope some organization nails him for his incompetent care. An administrator should just spend one morning observing to see how quickly he "evaluates" patients. They would not have to… stay past the morning as he is gone after that. Doesn't this city deserve better than this abusive, dismissive malpractitioner?

He was cold, dismissive, and, and even threatening when I sought help for depression. Told me I needed to shape up and "figure out my life." I have never had any trouble with the law and am a contributing member of society. I felt as though I was doing something wrong by seeking his help for my depression. Gave me meds that did were having severe side-effects (fainting, dizziness, extreme memory loss and fog) and when I went back to report this after several weeks, he told me to keep taking them for at least 6 months and then let me know how I felt! I was barely able to function! Terrible! Please take your health seriously and AVOID THIS DOCTOR AT ALL COSTS!

You'd think excellent listening skills would be a crucial skill for a psychiatrist. He fails miserably on this. He's condescending, arrogant and dismissive. I question his mental health and why he even went into psychiatry. All he does is mistreat people and collect his fat check from the insurance company. Oh wait, that's why he went into psychiatry-he can make money from other people's misery and get paid for it as he plumps up his ego by mentally abusing patients. If he's your only choice of a therapist you'd be better off committing suicide. IU Behavioral Health should throw him on the street, preferably in front of an oncoming semi.

Very bad first impression, bad second impression. He complained of over loaded patient schedule, both visits, as excuse for obvious lack of interest or compassion. He's judgemental &arrogant. Given his area of specialty, I'd expect at least more finesse if not sensitivity.

Unprofessional, uncourteous, horrible bedside manner, not engaging of patients trust

Dangerous and scary. Nearly died under his care, I will never forget how worthless and awful he made me feel. He truly could care less if you live or die and treats mental illness like a moral failing or character flaw. I feel lucky to have survived under his care.

I was referred to Dr. Griffith, who was chief of psychiatry at Bloomington Hospital (now IU Health), to discuss my long-standing condition of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). During the entire session, I was held in utter skepticism and even distain through his obvious remarks. For treatment he actually recommended, If you think you have SAD, just go out and stare into the sun for 30 minutes, and youll be better. He is a cruel and dangerous individual. Anybody would be much safer suffering through their condition on their own.

Took me off Klonipin cold turkey resulted in weeks of shaking and gave me a drug that caused tardive diskinansea (would not see me or talk to me for followup)
