Dr. Anant Ishverlal Patel, MD

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Patel. I have known many more people than just myself who's lives have been positively impacted by this incredible neurosurgeon. I felt my neck go out on me after a stressful year in graduate school about a month ago. I had been to the ER twice and 3 different doctors within a month. It wasn’t until my second ER visit that they did a CT scan and informed Dr. Patel that they found a severely herniated disc. Patel immediately ordered an MRI and pain medication until he could see me. The day I went to see him, he said I needed surgery immediately. At first, we were going to wait until my insurance approved it, but when I told him my pain was so bad that I was sweating, he decided I needed surgery sooner than insurance could approve it. You have to be honest with him because he will listen and it could make all the difference in how soon you need surgery or not. He sent me to the ER and performed surgery on me the next day. I woke up feeling… amazing- he got my disc completely off my spinal cord and did not ruin any nerves... I don’t know how he does it, but praise be. He is extremely modest. He has a huge heart and will go out of his way to do the best for people, on top of him being a HIGHLY skilled surgeon. He takes the time to do things right and makes smart decisions under a lot of pressure. I am glad I trusted him with my life and would recommend him to anyone. His staff is also amazing. I have been in chronic back pain for 7 years now and have seen countless doctors with 3 spinal fusions. It is highly rare to find a surgeon as talented as he who also has an amazing staff. I’m glad I found them.

Was seen by Dr. Patel for TN. Operative report didn’t address him as the primary surgeon just assisted. I never met nor told of the doctor who did the surgery, as a matter of fact I never met the doctor who did the surgery. No hospital visit or communication from this doctor . The fact that it is not against the law it’s unethical to not ask or introduce the doctor to the patient. The fact that it’s brain surgery is a very difficult position for a patient. It’s been 8 months since the surgery and yet there isn’t healing since now my skull has gaved in and the screws are now lose having to have surgery again to fix. No feeling at the incision area but major pain. It’s very dangerous to have been subjected to this horrible service. I would think carefully to have this doctor as a surgeon. At times seems spaced out during consultation and unable to answer questions correctly. Heads up.

Dr Patel is an amazing neurosurgeon. He makes his patients a priority. I have recommended him and will continue to do so. I trusted him and trust him with my life. He also has a great nurse and scheduler. They are so engaging and personable.

Initial appointment was horrible and I will not be back. He wouldn't commit to a treatment and wanted to leave decisions to us. Blamed my issues on Parkinson's even though I'm very active and am doing well in treatment. I will never suggest seeing him.

Dr. Patal performed my DBS surgery for Parkinson's in Tandem with my Neurologist Dr. Robert Izor. Dr. Patals ability to make you feel at ease for Brain surgery is remarkable. He comforts by explaining things during Pre-op visits and the precision he takes during the procedure is unmatched.

I was in a coma--Dr. Patel installed a shunt and saved my life. It took a month for me to wake up, but today I am a fully functioning individual thanks to Dr. Patel! Later that year he found the source of my infection and removed it.

Remarkable surgeon; generally speaking:for neurosurgeon (many of whom have difficulty with bedside manner) Patel was very compassionate and yet honest with before and after procedure communication. My operation took 9 1/2 hours when the average time is approx 4 hrs...my point being..he didn't give up nor allow other surgeries push me out of the way. The results were not perfect (1 mm off the target on the right stm), but the results would have far worse had he persevered with me. I am writing this 5.5 years after the brain surgery I would consider him to be A1 rating in my case.

I had two falls in Austin while I was away from my home. Dr. Patel performed Kypoplasty on me or I would not have been able to get on the plane to go home. I did not see him as often in the hospital as I would have liked, but i was impressed with the time and attention he gave when he came to my room. I believe he is a brilliant man and surgeon.
