Dr. Anna M Gonzales has the following 2 specialties
A gastroenterologist is a specialist in diagnosis and treatment of conditions involving the digestive/gastrointestinal (GI) tract. These doctors are experts on how food moves through the digestive system and is chemically broken down, with nutrients being absorbed and waste excreted. You might see this kind of doctor if you are experiencing any number of stomach issues, some of which might be severe diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, hemorrhoids, ulcers, acid reflux, Crohn's disease and more.
- Internal Medicine
An internist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic.
These doctors are often who adults see as their primary physicians because they treat a broad range of illnesses that do not require surgical or specialist interventions. They also work to help a patient maintain optimal health in order to prevent the onset of disease.
In addition to treating the common cold and flu, internists also treat chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

after having had 3 colonoscopies and an endoscopy with dr. gonzales since 2004,my last interaction with her in October was not only surprising, but disappointing..in the past i have accepted having to make an appointment 2 or more months in advance, and then being treated with a flippant attitude,or a few quick pokes on the stomach and being told results of a colonoscopy and a time frame to have another..i had made an appointment in august to see her at the end of October to discuss a colonoscopy, as when I last saw her last she said 5 years for the next one,and i was at that marker..unfortunately right about that same time i had an unexpected bout of colitis(never had it before)and when i called her office to speak with the nurse,i got a very rude call back, akin to what do you want us to do about it,just go to the emergency room..i asked her to please speak with Gonzales and call me back, which she did, and she was equally as rude when I asked where should I go and would she call ahead to tell them I was coming..she said,no, they dont do that and that I needed to let them know which emergency room or hospital so they could get my records..i was floored first because of the rudeness and second because i was treated so badly when I was feeling ill..i did go to hermann-woodlands emergency room and was there from 1 or 2pm until at least 10pm(after sitting of course in the e r for a long time before a triage) and finally was admitted...no call from dr gonzales, and insult to injury, she does not do hospital rounds,so another doctor from their office came to see me a couple of times.over the 3 day period..i called back after I came home to make an appointment, as I was told to make a hospital follow up with her,and they "squeezed" me in a week after I was released..dr Gonzales acted as if i were bothering her, gave me maybe 5 to 10 minutes of her time, and acted offended when I asked why the nurse was rude and why they did not call the hospital ,and when I tried to get a straight answer about what my problem is or was and what to do,she merely said colitis, and got her assistant in to set up a colonoscopy..i know this is a long story, but its the truth and when you are ill or have been in the hospital, sure you want the truth of the matter and not "fluff'" but you also want compassion, courtesy and somewhat of a bedside manner, even if the doctor is having a busy or bad day!!I have never been treated that way before, and by the way, she would not allow me to ask questions, kept interrupting me when I tried to speak with her , and then told me to find another doctor!! with that attitude and that kind of treatment,i most certainly would not recommend her,as I have done in the past, and I will search for another gastroenterologist...
I really like Dr. Gonzales. I had been given the run around by several doctors and she was the first one to take my concern seriously and take steps to identify the problem. She explained why she would do the tests, what they would tell her, and how we would proceed. I'm a scientist and she followed the scientific way of eliminating possible diagnoses and arriving at the best solution. Other people seem not to have liked her demeanor but I really appreciated it. I don't need a lot of fluff, I'm looking for a plan of treatment. They also did an EGD on me and it went just fine. Only complaint is that it's near impossible to get someone on the phone when you call their main number and they don't have a waiting list so you have to keep calling back to get moved up in the schedule.
I would not recommend this doctor. She is rude and flippant and when I asked if an extremely uncomfortable and invasive procedure was necessary at this time, instead of addressing me in a collaborative way, she stated, "I don't care what you do. I'm just here to make recommendations," as she wrote in her notepad. Her cell phone rang constantly during our brief appointment and she did not silence it, and she interrupted me several times as I asked questions. I am a Registered Nurse and know this is not appropriate protocol. An honest discussion about risks vs. benefits, even though it may be annoying to her since we've had the discussion a thousand times before, would have been in order. We're talking about a scope through my rectum, colon, and down my throat. Make time.
