I've never had such a bad experience at a doctor's office. I went to see Dr. Castellvi after being referred to him due to severe back pain. After looking at X-rays, the doctor informed me that I had a spinal fracture and he recommended surgery. I said I would like to avoid surgery due to my age (almost 90). His tone immediately changed and he said "I'm a surgeon, I don't hand out pills. If you want pain pills, get them from your own doctor!" As he was saying this, he walked out of the room. I'm not a fan of pain pills either, but he could've been a little more helpful and talked to me about other options such as physical therapy, what activities I should or should not do, should I wear a brace, etc. Instead, I got the feeling he was totally disinterested once he figured out I wasn't going to be generating any more revenue for him since I didn't want to have surgery. It's been a few days since my visit, and it's still bothering me how rude and unprofessional was Dr. Castellvi.
Dr. Castellvi is rude, patronizing and even demeaning in his approach to patient care. I wouldn't consider this a bad bedside manner, it is just poor behavior. He did not listen to what I had to say regarding my situation nor had he reviewed any of the history I painstakingly documented on their forms or the MRI results that were on the computer in front of him. The only reason he stopped to consider potential treatment methods was because one of the other doctor's that came in the room with him suggested them. The worst part is, I actually waited for 2 hours to be treated in this manner.
I went to this doctor for a second opinion, his bedside manner was awful, was not familiar with patient history at all. He asked several redundant questions, something like what is wrong with you" and "what are you trying to achieve? I didnt sit in the waiting room for 2 hours, spent hundreds of dollars, filled out dozens of questionnaires about my symptoms to explain the obvious. Dr Castellvi seemed very superficial in his responses. His answer to my question about the side effects of cortisone injections was that I could die from them and that there could be side effects from anything he does since his is an orthopedic surgeon.
