They may also refer you to additional specialists throughout your care, but they will always be your home base for questions and support. It’s also worth mentioning that medical oncologists deal mostly with solid tumors while hematologists specialize in cancers that involve blood disorders, such as leukemia.

An internist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic.
These doctors are often who adults see as their primary physicians because they treat a broad range of illnesses that do not require surgical or specialist interventions. They also work to help a patient maintain optimal health in order to prevent the onset of disease.

It's very sad that I ended up with this doctor at UT Hospital after Dr Miller left. Dr Charles needs to speak better English it's so hard to understand him it's important to be able to under your Doctor to get to best treatment. Dr Anthony Charles was told by another doctor not to give me any more chemo due to radiation burn for 2 weeks and he talked me in to taking chemo 4 days later and I got worse. His words were this chemo is mild and I will be fine. I ended up very sick for 3 month and could not get the treatment I needed. Once I got better I tried the chemo he recommend and had a bad reaction and 2 weeks later the cancer grew in to my bones. Got more radiation and was told no more chemo. Next office visit with Dr Charles he was trying to push more chemo on me after I told him I suppose to wait for the radiation to ware off and all he would say is that this treatment is mild. Yea I heard that before so he set it up and I cancel the treatment the next day. Then I changed doctor so glad I did now I am getting the right treatment I need. I was told later on by a doctor that Dr Charles is the type of Dr that will follow you to your grave with a bag chemo. I could never say anything bad about his staff or all the nurses at the cancer unit. They always gave me great service and was so nice.
