Dr. Asim Rana has the following 3 specialties
A psychiatrist is a doctor with specific training in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness.
He or she can not only provide the counseling necessary to both diagnose and treat a patient, but can also prescribe medication when needed. In some cases, a psychiatrist will only provide the medication and the counseling will be provided by another healthcare specialist, like a certified counselor or psychologist.
Like other doctors, psychiatrists employ diagnostic tools like CT scans and MRI in order to observe the structure and function of a patient's brain.
Once a diagnosis is made, these specialists may use behavior or cognitive therapy in order to address the patient's condition, or a multitude of other types of therapy, in conjunction with or in place of medication.
A neurologist is a physician who diagnoses and treats disorders of the nervous system which is comprised of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. These doctors do not perform surgery, but refer patients to neurological surgeons when they determine that surgical intervention is necessary.
Some of the conditions that neurologists diagnose and treat are epilepsy, aneurysms, hydrocephalus, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal disc herniation, and spinal disease.
In addition to using diagnostic tests like MRI, CT scans, EEG and EMG, neurologists also employ neurological testing to gauge muscle strength and movement, balance, reflexes, sensation, memory, speech, and other cognitive abilities.
- Child Psychiatry
A pediatric/adolescent psychiatrist is a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating mental and emotional conditions in young children and adolescents.
These specialists study psychopathological disorders and their causes in order to prevent and identify them in their patients. These disorders may be caused by biological, psychosocial, genetic, demographic, or environmental factors, a patient's history, or any combination of these factors.
Pediatric/adolescent psychiatrists treat patients through a variety of interventions including medical treatment, behavior therapy, cognitive-behavior therapy, problem solving techniques, family therapy, parent training, psychodynamic therapy, and consultation with the patient's primary care physician or school professionals.

I'm shocked that in his treatment of our adolescent daughter, Dr. Rana did not think to meet separately with us, her parents, either before or after meeting with her. It was very difficult to share certain insights about our daughter in her presence. When we told Dr. Rana that our daughter continually asked to be admitted to an inpatient hospital and seemed to almost like the hospital (which is not uncommon in people possessing borderline personality disorder traits), his response was: "Nonsense. No child wants to be hospitalized." He completely dismissed our insights and in so doing, undermined us.
Our teenaged daughter came to Dr. Rana after multiple hospitalizations for severe depression and suicidal ideation. While she was in the hospital, both the hospital psychiatrist and we, her parents, tried repeatedly to reach Dr. Rana by phone. He did not return our calls and connected only once with the hospital psychiatrist and even then, it was only after several days. When our daughter was discharged from the hospital, Dr. Rana offered her no hope—essentially said that with her strong suicidal ideation, she should go back into the hospital or even a residential treatment center. He agreed to tweak her antidepressant dosage but otherwise washed his hands of her. It was heartbreaking and discouraging and our daughter left his office feeling worse than when she walked in. For the record, the hospital was not where she needed to be. She needed strong psychotherapy (which she is now getting) and a safe environment (which we are able to provide her at home). Dr. Rana was not acting in the best interest of his patient.
Don't waste your time. you are lucky to be in his office for even 5 minutes when he comes up with your diagnosis and writes you a prescription. Is more concerned about getting his fee paid than he is in his patient's mental health. I had to pick a star to have this review posted, if I could I would rate him minus 5 stars, he's that bad
