Dr. Ayanna J Brown has the following 3 specialties
- Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
A psychiatrist is a doctor with specific training in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness.
He or she can not only provide the counseling necessary to both diagnose and treat a patient, but can also prescribe medication when needed. In some cases, a psychiatrist will only provide the medication and the counseling will be provided by another healthcare specialist, like a certified counselor or psychologist.
Like other doctors, psychiatrists employ diagnostic tools like CT scans and MRI in order to observe the structure and function of a patient's brain.
Once a diagnosis is made, these specialists may use behavior or cognitive therapy in order to address the patient's condition, or a multitude of other types of therapy, in conjunction with or in place of medication.
A neurologist is a physician who diagnoses and treats disorders of the nervous system which is comprised of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. These doctors do not perform surgery, but refer patients to neurological surgeons when they determine that surgical intervention is necessary.
Some of the conditions that neurologists diagnose and treat are epilepsy, aneurysms, hydrocephalus, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal disc herniation, and spinal disease.
In addition to using diagnostic tests like MRI, CT scans, EEG and EMG, neurologists also employ neurological testing to gauge muscle strength and movement, balance, reflexes, sensation, memory, speech, and other cognitive abilities.

When you first go to her office, you have to meet with a holier-than-thou intake "nurse" who jots down your background and makes snide comments about your life. Then you see Dr. Brown, who can't be bothered to pay attention to anything you say. She'll give you a generic SSRI, but when you need a refill she's "on vacation" and can't be reached. Then Dr. Brown pushes you to see the therapist in her office, who they call "Dr. Chan" but trust me, that guy is NOT a doctor and has the therapeutic value of a potato. Everyone associated with that office needs to GROW A SOUL.
CAUTION: PASS THIS ONE UP IF YOU ARE HORRIBLE WITH DIRECTIONS AND RELY ON NAVIGATION. The address she has on file and navigation dumped me off in Brother's Pizza/Motel 6/Super Target. Calling back, her OWN STAFF CAN'T GIVE PROPER DIRECTIONS. You need to see a psychiatrist and if you have an anxiety issue like I do, i passed the test. Thanks for wasting my time, gas, and succeeding at pissing me off. Never again unless they are in a pavilion or clinic/hospital/group.
I have been a patient of Dr. Brown for two years. She had been so good to my son and I that I followed her to her new office on Cypresswood which was a drastic improvement! The staff is pleasant and helpful, the office is beautiful and it's worth the extra drive. Through the years, Dr Brown helped my son overcome anger issues and he is performing better in school and making friends. I've also learned better ways to manage him. Dr Brown comes highly recommended !
