Specialties

Dr. Barbara A Dappert has the following 2 specialties

  • Neurology

A neurologist is a physician who diagnoses and treats disorders of the nervous system which is comprised of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. These doctors do not perform surgery, but refer patients to neurological surgeons when they determine that surgical intervention is necessary.
Some of the conditions that neurologists diagnose and treat are epilepsy, aneurysms, hydrocephalus, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal disc herniation, and spinal disease.
In addition to using diagnostic tests like MRI, CT scans, EEG and EMG, neurologists also employ neurological testing to gauge muscle strength and movement, balance, reflexes, sensation, memory, speech, and other cognitive abilities.

  • Psychiatry

A psychiatrist is a doctor with specific training in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness.
He or she can not only provide the counseling necessary to both diagnose and treat a patient, but can also prescribe medication when needed. In some cases, a psychiatrist will only provide the medication and the counseling will be provided by another healthcare specialist, like a certified counselor or psychologist.
Like other doctors, psychiatrists employ diagnostic tools like CT scans and MRI in order to observe the structure and function of a patient's brain.
Once a diagnosis is made, these specialists may use behavior or cognitive therapy in order to address the patient's condition, or a multitude of other types of therapy, in conjunction with or in place of medication.

I have been to close a dozen doctors because Dr Dappert referred me to them. Those doctors did not have a very good opinion of Dr Dappert. Every specialist we went to said, "not sure why she sent you here".

Do not go to this doctor, she will make everyone take a driver test!!!

The patient works in a technical job that is very demanding and requires numerous calculations and high level scientific work which he does. He does have memory problems, but they don't cause difficulty in every day life. She gave her simple memory assessment and because he couldn't answer a few questions, she made him take a driver test. If you have any memory problems, learning the PA drivers manual again and answering the 250 questions in order to take the test is arduous for a 16 year old as well as an adult. Do not go to Dr. Dappert unless you are prepared to study and take the driver test. She was instrumental in getting PennDot to require this test on advice from a doctor and by God, she's going to make use of it.

This doctor listened to me more than any other doctor than I have ever met and approached each of my problems in great detail. She gives me confidence that doctors still care about their patients. I now have reasonable expectations about my condition and new and better treatment options.

I went to this Dr. because I was experiencing debilitating dizziness. Did not seem to be very compassionate at all. Very cold and clinical. Did not win over my confidence at all.
