Dr. Barbara Joyce Nath, MD

I met with Dr. Nath as a new patient. Dr. Nath asked few questions once I met with her. I provided detailed and written information of my symptoms which she did not review. Dr. Nath was not thorough in her examination with questions or ordering tests. I did not find her to be a good listener. After sharing my symptoms which had affected my life activities she stated I was experiencing a flare up of a condition I had been previously diagnosed with from a different doctor. I felt she was not correct so I saw a specialist at a different hospital in Boston who ran a battery of tests which showed a different diagnosis. Luckily I saw a different doctor, otherwise I would still be misdiagnosed. I had heard of her good reputation but did not experience her expertise or skills as a diagnosistician.

Dr. Nath books to many patients and does to many procedures. She is unaware of how her department is being run, which is terrible. You have to leave messages and they will get back to you. Very disappointed.

Dr. Nath is competent but shies away from hard problems that involve coordination with other doctors. Her staff is non existent and when surface, incompetent. Getting something done is difficult even a simple prescription refill. I have waited hours for her. It is just not worth it.

I have been a patient of dr Nath for over 30 years. She is a wonderful doctor. She gives you her full attention the whole visit. I am so grateful to have her. I just hope she doesn’t retire on me. I would miss her so much.

I found Dr Nath very condescending. She obviously didn't think I had the intelligence of a dog. Instead of asking me "What happens when your symptoms relapse", she asked, "How do you know you are relapsing?" She didn't think that I knew when I'm sick, when I see improvement, and when symptoms get worse". She blatantly lied to me 3 times. Told me there was no such thing as a camera pill (PillCam Colon) for the large intestine twice and added in a condescending remark and attitude on top of it, even after I told her my other GI doc said there was (and I confirmed it by looking it up) because I won't do colonoscopies. The third lie was telling me that I would see instant improvements in my symptoms after the first time doing Diaphrametric breathing. I did it for a month with no improvement at all. She doesn't respect patients at all and a doctor that lies can't be trusted (which unfortunately is most doctors). I would not recommend her at all.

She is very thorough, very considerate and a GREAT diagnostician!

Dr Nath is thorough, compassionate and was accurate in her diagnosis. She goes the extra mile, took time to talk with me, calling to tell me what I should know and how to proceed. I would recommend her to anyone. I only wish she could be my internist.

Returns my calls within 15 minutes most times. Very caring.

I am in the medical profession and try to get the best of the best for myself and my relatives and friends. Dr. Barbara Nath is that best of the best. She is a very busy doctor due to her worldwide reputation. I find her very conscientious, makes calls late into the evening to follow up on phone calls and follow up of procedures. It seems she is still old fashioned when it comes to caring for her patients, THEY come first hence her calling well into the evening and not passing it onto a nurse or other staff, she calls and she cares! The ease of appts is due to her reputation, there are just so many appt she can see in a day and she does more than many. Time spent with the patient is shorter due to the number of patients she still has to see. I would wait hours if I needed to, to see her but usually it is a 15-20 min wait in the office and sometimes not that long. I highly recommend this doctor, I do not work with her nor do I know her other than as being a great gastroenterologist… that I am family see for medical problems.

Though I felt that Dr. Nath was more than adequately qualified, I could never get her to respond to my phonecalls even when she suggested I call her. So I started going to another Doctor.
