Dr. Barbara Widom, MD

I am a long-time Type 1 diabetic and have seen Dr. Widom for many years. I have found her to be extremely knowledgeable and she brings a tremendous amount of experience to bear on each situation. She does not always prescribe by the numbers or follow the herd, and some patients may have problems with the lack of certainty, but to me that is the reality of medical practice (there is a lot we don't know!). I have found her candor refreshing and helpful, as I can then make my own decision. I strongly believe she cares deeply about her patients, even though she can sometimes seem stressed or harried, but I think that is more a function of the medical system that she is embedded in (20.0 minutes per appointment) rather than who she really is. Doctors are not miracle workers, and diabetics in particular have to take care of themselves, and Dr. Widom may earn some negative evaluations because she does call it like it is. In my case I am extremely happy with her care.

Feisty. Opinionated. Minimizes and even denies the existence of side effects of levothyroxine. Refused to provide help or resolutions of side effects.

I saw Dr. Widom for years to get my hypothyroidism under control, and she always managed it well. I grew to like her, despite the fact that, as others have pointed out, her bedside manner is not the best. At the time, though, I was suffering from anxiety and high blood pressure, which she sent me to a GP for. Only with the help of a naturopath did I figure out that the issues were due to perimenopausal hormone changes. Menopausal stuff is not her main gig, but I kind of feel like, if I'm your patient, and you as an ENDOCRINOLOGIST don't even bring up hormones as a possible cause of my issues, who can, who will?

Came from out of State for wife’s thyroid condition. Dr. Widom was rushed and rude. We left the office basically angry for lack of answers. We are NOT going back! Terrible!

Horrible. I never felt she cared about me as a person. Defensive. I would never recommend anyone to her.

At first things went relatively well with Dr Widom. All of a sudden she stopped testing T3 and T4 levels stating "these tests are not helpful in this situation. The TSH is what tells us whether her thyroid dose is correct." My diagnois has not changed and the T3 and T4 have been very helpful in the past. What is going on!?

My mom is a patient, I'm the power of attorney, my mom is sick and these stupid doctors won't tell me anything... being her power of attorney they don't call me, they don't tell MD that my mom is sick... I'm tired of these people

I have seen Dr. Widom and she is great...The difficulty is it is almost impossible to to get an appointment within a timely manner..probably because there are so few endocronologists in Fort Collins area.

I have never seen a doctor with such a horrible bedside manner. She is very rushed and does not explain things well at all! I left her office frustrated and in tears. She puts words in your mouth and does not listen. Do not waste your time with her.. find another internal medicine doctor.

I found Dr. Widam to be confusing, poorly prepared and she rambled and made little sense. I was happy when she walked out, without saying anything and that was how the appt. ended. I was warned by my PCP that Dr. Widam had good and bad days and sometimes made no sense and she lived up to that reputation. Her limited knowledge, confusing manner, seemingly being lost and incoherent rambling should be enough to have her license revoked.
