Caring and very competent Surgeon. Cancer had spread to lymph nodes required more extensive removal at the margins. Minimal post op problems encountered so far. Additional follow up with radiology is required.

I don't think you can find more professional care. Here is my experience: I was diagnosed with prostate cancer by a different doctor affiliated with a different hospital. I was not satisfied with his care nor the way he described my options. A health scientist friend of mine recommended Dr. Ehdaie. Dr. Ehdaie is both a surgeon and a research scientist. Look at his bio. He is actively engaged in many facets of prostate care. I think this is important as he is constantly engaged in understanding different treatments. In my first meeting with him, he outlined different treatments and because my cancer (a Gleason 6) was not that aggressive, suggested that I consider "active surveillance" that is continuing to monitor. This in itself is unusual. Apparently, prostate cancer is good business, and many doctors push the patient to get treated. When, after a second biopsy (Dr. Ehdaie was not satisfied with the first biopsy and MRI procedure) it was determined that my Gleason score… was a 7, with the cancer near the outside of the prostate. Something my first doctor didn't pick up, or at least explain. Dr. Ehdaie suggested surgery but took the time to explain the other options. When I asked about radiation, he even scheduled an appointment with a Sloan Kettering radiologist. I opted to go with surgery. This has worked out well. Dr. Ehdaie is an excellent surgeon and the care at Sloan Kettering, from start to finish was absolutely the best. There are a lot of robotic surgeons out there, but I wonder whether the equipment that they use is as state of the art as that at Sloan Kettering. In any case, I have never encountered such competent caring folks anywhere. Some examples: before the surgery, his office arranged a webinar with about 5 patients planning on surgery. The webinar outlined what to expect and how to prepare. It included a conference call with a recent patient who described his procedure and recovery and answered questions as to what to expect. The care at Sloan Kettering from the moment one walks in the door until leaving was amazing. Private room, very accessible nurses, etc. Post care, Dr. Ehdaie's office has been wonderful in responding to follow-up questions - and believe me you will have some. It has made all the difference. As a result, my recovery has been excellent.

Every aspect of my care, from my first appointment, my surgery, and post-op recovery plan was fantastic. If you are reading this, you are in search of a urology oncologist, and if you have the means to get to New York, you will be in the best hands in the world! Dr. Ehdaie and all of the staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering are at the top of class!
