Dr. Bernard J Langenauer, MD

When I was a kid, my parents took me to Dr. Langenauer for a few years. He was polite and professional, always shaking my hand as I left the room (although I was only in elementary school at the time). But he wasn’t friendly at all: never asked how our lives were going, or talked about himself. Some people are fine with that, but that just rubs me the wrong way. I don’t think I ever saw the guy smile. Also suggested to my parents the best way to get over my fear of alarms (autism-related) was to randomly set off the burglar alarm in our home every day. Who does that?? His whole attitude was “you’ll do X, Y and Z and that’s gonna be the answer.” Again, not a bad guy: I think he was trained during a time period where physicians were taught to be relatively impersonal when dealing with patients. But when you’re a kid, hard not to be rubbed the wrong way by that. He was less interested in working with you than he was in telling you what to do.

Put my son on multiple medications until he could no longer function, couldn't stay awake and gained almost 100 pounds! He only listened to the extent that he tried to manipulate. We left for another doctor who tapered off all the drugs which was much better!!

Staff were rude, he made us wait for 15 minutes. Then, I told him I didn't want to take pills for my tic disorder, he said he's institutionalize me if I didn't. The guy made me feel uncomfortable, and inquired about my personal life without interest. DON'T GO TO LANGENAUER!

Dr. Langenauer has changed our lives dramatically!! Our son has autism and all other dr's were just giving incorrect dx and just giving meds. The first 3 months of school were h**l. He evaluated him, talked to us about about a tx plan. After the first day of trying our new regiment, he was a completely a different child. We tell everyone how wonderful he is.If you're looking for an outgoing, laughy doctor...well, he's not it. He is all business and a quiet demeanor. BUT, if you want a great doctor, he's it.

When I was fifteen, Dr. Langenauer said that if I didn't take the antidepressants, he would have me institutionalized. My only diagnosis before taking antidepressants was severe depression. Now I have anxiety, maybe mania, and an explosive temper, and cognitive problems.
