Dr. Bethany Barrow, MD, FACOG

One of the best surgeons in the state! She is so knowledgeable and a wonderful clinician!

I read multiple reviews saying that this provider seemed uninterested, rude and annoyed. I deeply regret not listening. I am sure if you are a thin, already fairly healthy person, that Dr Barrows is probably a wonderful physician and I am glad if that is your experience. But if you have health issues and are fat, I would strongly strongly recommend finding a different provider. I left feeling humiliated, unheard and dismissed completely. I was basically told that I couldn't be helped until I lost weight. I cried in my car after my appointment and just felt absolutely awful. I cried after I got home. I cried before I went to bed. And I'm crying as a write this review. I read my after visit notes on my MyChart and even the notes Dr Barrows wrote felt snarky and unsympathetic. Medicine as a whole is unkind and uncaring to fat patients. Navigating the medical system as a fat human being is scary and often times painful. This experience is exactly why I don't seek medical help… unless I feel I have no other choice. I deeply regret not canceling my appointment.

I had my appointment for a consultation, to get my tubes tied. When she walked in the room, she had an attitude on her. I could tell she did not want to be there and I was just an inconvenience. I tried explaining and discussing other medical issues that were pointed out at my previous visit a few weeks before. She said she did not know what was discussed if i didnt talk to a doctor within the group. Every time I explained and asked a question she stated she couldnt answer because she didnt know what doctors I had talked to, and did not bother to access my records. She was very unprofessional over all. She walked in with an attitude. Her body lenguage was clear she did not want to be there and it was an inconvenience to be talking to a patient. She had no empathy what's so ever. Then continued to ask what I wanted to do in a very condescending matter, and said that if I wanted to get my tubes tied she would do it. I will not be going back to her at all. I did not feel comfortable or… trust her to perform a surgery specially if she does not care about her patients. I saw other reviews of patients that had a similar experience as mine. I dont understand why people become doctors if they dont like the job they'll be doing.

I saw Dr. Barrow and left feeling as though I had just been bullied and completely made to feel as insignificant as possible. Not only did she not seem to care and had zero empathy, the fact that I was nervous seemed to be an affront to her. She acted as though she was offended somehow. However, after reading these reviews, I'm somewhat relieved to know I was NOT the cause. She was short, rude, acted as though she could barely stand to be in the same room. And towards the end of the visit, she asked "do you want to do the pap"? And I was so confused, I said, "yes" and we went through with the exam. That was fast and professional. I'll give her that. However, at the end, I was told to follow up and she left like I was a huge waste of her time and she walked out without saying goodbye or anything of the sort. The more I think about it, the madder it makes me. I will absolutely not be going back and I may just switch from Lovelace altogether.

After my first visit I made sure to never schedule with her again.

The visit was alright… Nice office, nice staff. Other than the fact I had to pretty much ask her to order blood tests, ultrasound and if I should see a specialist… nothing recommended to me at all. If I hadn’t asked for those things I would have left that appointment with no further inquiry to my issues. She was nice but also uncaring at the same time if that makes sense? It could just be that she’s serious. But it felt almost as if she didn’t really wanna be there. That’s how I feel about most dr visits nowadays though. We’re all just a number. It seems these days we pretty much are our own doctors, and if you don’t know anything about medicine good luck getting anything accomplished. You’re charged hundreds of dollars to be your own physician. It’s very frustrating… At this time, I’m not sure I’ll go back. I still have tests to be done so I might have to but I might just ask to see another physician within the group.

My visit with Dr. Barrow was horrible. It was a total waste of my time. I was explaining my concerns and reasons for my visit. She could have cared less. Blamed my concerns on the pandemic. She said people were having the same problems since the pandemic started. Not sure what the pandemic had to do with possible premenapause concerns. Totally irrelevant. Also wanted to pass my concerns off to an endocrinologist. I would NEVER see this doctor again. Terrible experience.

Dr Barrow came in to speak with me before my exam, and while in my street clothes, to discuss any concerns I had or anything that she should know since my last exam. The physical exam was quick, easy and painless. Definitely staying with Dr Barrow.

I am so surprised by the dichotomous nature of the reviews for Dr. Barrow. My experience very much lines up with the patients who rated Dr. Barrow at a 5 for excellence of care. Dr. Barrow was all I could hope for in a ObGyn doctor. Thorough, knowledgeable and perfectly professionally approachable. Individuals have their own preferences. I found Dr. Barrow’s demeanor to be a perfect fit. She’s an expert physician with what I experienced as an appropriate and pleasant bedside manner. Perhaps others prefer a more effusive style of doctor. I think she’s excellent.
