Dr. Bobby Nelson Johnson, MD

I've been a patient of Dr. Johnson for a few years only because they're limited in my area. When i go in to see him, it's always the same scenario. He comes in and shakes my hand and ask me how I'm doing. I tell him and it's like he's not even listening. He listens to my heart and I again tell him that I'm not well. I have an under active thyroid and a pituitary tumor. My whole body is hurting and he says it has nothing to do with what I have. He tells me to keep taking my meds and to come back in 6 months. He was in there no longer than 5 minutes. His nurse told me I would have to go to my family doctor to resolve my hormone issues because Dr. Johnson doesn't deal with hormones. She said he only dealt with thyroid and diabetes. I was so upset. He did nothing for me.

I called CVSCareMart for a refill on my husband's Humalog/Vasaglar and was told that the prescription had expired and they had tried numerous times to speak with someone in your office and no response and asked for me to call I spoke with the receptionist and she told me it was good until 2020 I asked if I could speak with the nurse and she said she was busy, she also said that they had sent the prescription to The wrong place and would send to CVS caremart. I tried to give her a phone number to expedite the process and she refused and said they would fax it in. i called CVS caremart and they had not received anything. I called your office again at 4:30 and it was closed. According to your website it says you are opened from 8-5 this is misrepresenting your office.Would you please send that prescription ASAP. My husband is running short of insulin. Thank you.

dr.johnson help me get all my diabetic prescriptions I needed today at a great price

Dr. Johnson did not provide good treatment of diabetes or thyroid related to pregnancy. There are not a lot of endocrinologist in the HSV area but there are plenty in Birmingham and Nashville.

My OB/GYN asked me a diabetes test because I am 28 weeks pregnant. I failed the test and his office contacted me suggesting that I should visit an endocrinologist. They referred me Dr. Johnson. If I allowed, they would ask his office to call me. I received a phone call from Dr. Johnson's office next day. They made an effort to make an appointment next week. Dr. Johnson explained me the reason for developed the gestational diabetes, even though I have no diabetes family history. He was pleased to answer my question. Also he was very positive about controlling it. His demeanor was very calm and quickly put me at ease. He is very knowledgeable about his area. It is very important for me because I came from a doctor's family, so I have a good idea about most illnesses. I am pleased that my OB/GYN recommended him!

same as last person... don't want to drive to bham to dr aggruella at UAB but at least he stays in room for more than minute... why are we waiting in Lobby so long? it's not that he is giving each patient TIME!!!

I understand that we each have our own interpretation of what happens in an office visit but I can assure you that my experience with Dr. Johnson was not a very good one. I have recently been diagnosed with an endocrine disorder and am looking for someone who specializes in this specific disease. Apparently not all endocrinologist specialize in all the endocrine diseases. I was prepared for my appointment with questions to ask regarding self care and management of my newly diagnosed condition. However, not one question got asked because I wasn't given the chance to ask them. He pulled a 'little lady' routine and mostly spoke to my husband. When my husband asked specific questions regarding my condition Dr. Johnson's simple reply was for me to 'exercise and eat more'. Well, obviously, but let's get me well enough so I can do so... Needless to say I was left confused in how to care for myself with no real direction other than taking daily medication. Furthermore, after I left… his office I glanced at my check out sheet and patient instructions and there were several things on the paper that were not discussed in my office visit. Some rather important issues, for instance, getting the flu shot. It wasn't discussed but in bold letters on my discharge sheet were that I wasn't allowed to have it. I understand that I am writing about this man's career and reputation. However well regarded he is in the medical community I found his bedside manner and concern for his patients severely lacking.

Seemed to me that due to my age he had no serious interest

Although Dr. Johnson seemed to be a caring doctor, the office policies are to charge and charge again the patient. I was told that in order for the doctor to be able to help with my diabetes, I would need to submit a detailed account of my sugar readings and meals once a week to the office (no problem there). But then informed me that I would have to pay an extra $10 for each submission. This is over $40 per month, in addition to the office visit fee! Then, again, when I needed a perscription refill, I was told that I would be charged $10 for each perscription. In my case that would be $30 and they will not accept a call from my pharmacy. I decided that there are way too many charges that my insurance will not agree to pay. So why should I agree to pay them. I have chosen to go somewhere else.
