Excellent surgeon and staff

Dr. Barba is a very skilled and professional doctor. Very good bed side manner. His staff is excellent also.

The whole process was a pleasure... Dr. Barba is such a sweet and gentle man as well as all the staff at his Harlingen office. Would definitely recommend he for the procedure I had.

I needed surgery ASAP.. went to ER and was so pleased w Dr Barba. Explained everything to me before surgery and made me feel very positive and relaxed...all turned out ok..thank you Doc.

When I scheduled my surgery with Doctor Barba three individuals at the hospital indicated that it is Dr. Barba's habit to schedule the patient for as many procedures as possible and that the doctor frequently would 'redo' the same procedure. After having an initial biopsy with him, he told me that I would have to go back into surgery again and that if I scheduled with an oncologist that it would have to be a doctor that he could "work with." I was given the name of 3 oncologists in the area. When I told him I wanted a a mastectomy on both breast with reconstruction he started yelling at me and told me that there was no one in the valley that could do that and slammed the office door as he exited. I went to Houston for the procedure. The oncologist found a significant size difference between what Dr. Barba's lab reported and the actual size on the original tumor. I was told no chemo treatment was necessary, and that it was actually counter indicated due to the small size of the tumor that was reported incorrectly.

Bad Doctor

Please, please think twice and do your research about this Doctor. I had a horribly and scarry experience with this Doctor. What I was told should be a simple out patient surgery turned into a nightmare. Dr. Barba was suppose to put a portacath (for chemo treatment) in so that I could start my chemo treatments. I was rushed into prep and before I knew it I was out of surgery and waking up, I could not breathe because of the pain, I was told he nipped by right lung and that the portacath was traveling to the middle of my chest, they tried to contact Dr. Barba to come back to the hospital, and I was told that he was not answering his phone and already heading to the next town. I was given a lot of pain medication and taken to radiology, the Radiology Dr. told me that he had to remove the portacath because it was moving and that it was not put in right, and that my lung had been nipped, I could not stand the pain, and was having severe difficulty breathing. I had to be admitted to the hospital, for several days, a tube had to be place in my lung because it had collapsed. Please do your research, had I read all of the ratings on here I would not have used Dr. Barba at all. Please let others know. If I could rate him with a zero star I would, unfortunately I must click on a star to get this review out to you. I am doing all I can to help others get better care.

Dr. Barba is well know as "THE Butcher" He comes across so sweet like a use car dealer but please BEWARE he is a awlful person. He has injured so many patients. Please Run don't walk. Find another Doctor. I know you want the operation but value your life more. He ruined my life and several other people that contacted me.

One year later and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I will weigh in on Thursday but even accounting for the bad scale on the last weigh-in, according to my pcp's scale on the 25th, I was down 205 pounds in this first year. I am sitting in my son's rec room upstairs (couldn't get here often before) relaxing with him after returning home from a 5 day trip to NY that I was able to do on my own without the wheelchair, a walker or even a cane. I took the train and bus without concerns about fitting on the seat or through the aisle. I sat at a booth at a restaurant while I was there and used a non-handicapped bathroom without concerns about fitting there, either. I bought new boots TWO SIZES smaller than the shoes I wore before surgery and am wearing a skirt and shirt 10 sizes smaller. I am sitting here with the laptop on my LAP---- I have one now, and a neck, too, for that matter! You know, there are even slight protrusions that I understand are collar bones LOL. I cannot believe the differences in my life and if you could only have walked in my shoes a year ago, you'd understand. Very few people really understood the impact all that weight had on my quality of life, not just my health. Oh, by the way, for ha-ha's, since I haven't taken one bit of insulin or diabetes meds since one week post-op I checked my bloodsugar while with my partner this weekend. Fasting (am) reading? 101. Thank you Dr. Barba for giving me my life back!

Dr. Barba and his staff have been wonderful with me over the years. I have had numerous problems due to bad healing. Dr. Barba always knows exactly what the problem is and fixes it and gets me back on track. I would recommend him to anyone that wants to find options for loosing weight.

Do not let this man touch you. After my surgery, I have had nothing but extreeme pain in my abdomen. He removed my gall bladder unnecessarily, as it was not the problem because my pain is still there. When I went back to him again, he told me it was phantom pain??? What is that..He is an assembly line hack!

Dr. Barba did RNY surgery on me in 2005 and the surgery was OK. That was just when Dr. Barba was leaving the Bariatric group at St. Francis -- that group was wonderful, thorough, helpful and supportive. When he left that group, Dr. Barba's private practice staff lacked competence. My recovery was problematic and it was impossible to get a follow up appt. Then in 2007, I had hernia surgery/"tummy tuck" and that procedure went very poorly. Ended up with significant deep wounds and 8 months of VNA wound support. Follow up with Dr. Barba was a nightmare. I would absolutely not recommend Dr. Barba for any type of surgery.

DR.CARLOS BARBA IS THE MOST CARING DOCTOR I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE.MY HUSBAND HAD THE LAP-BAND SURGERY AND THE RESULTS ARE AMAZING. I WILL RECOMEND ANY ONE TO ATTEND HIS INFO SESSION AND LISTEN TO WHAT HE HAS TO OFFER TO HIS PATIENTS,TRUST ME YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS.IN YR I LOST 70LBS.LAP-BAND IS THE WAY TO GO.
