Pediatric neurologists diagnose neurological conditions in children as young as newborn, all the way up to adolescence. They can recommend treatment for sleep disorders, head injuries and headaches, but they also specialize in issues such as epilepsy, seizures and brain tumors.
Their expertise in childhood development and the nervous system make them an excellent resource for parents of children with autism, cerebral palsy, mental development issues or learning disabilities. You can consult with a pediatric neurologist before, during and after diagnosis depending on your child's specific condition and needs.
A neurologist is a physician who diagnoses and treats disorders of the nervous system which is comprised of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. These doctors do not perform surgery, but refer patients to neurological surgeons when they determine that surgical intervention is necessary.
Some of the conditions that neurologists diagnose and treat are epilepsy, aneurysms, hydrocephalus, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal disc herniation, and spinal disease.
In addition to using diagnostic tests like MRI, CT scans, EEG and EMG, neurologists also employ neurological testing to gauge muscle strength and movement, balance, reflexes, sensation, memory, speech, and other cognitive abilities.

Dr. Bean has truly been the most influential and wonderful person in my life. I was going into Freshman year of high school when I was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome-- the first appointment with him I was in a terrible place medically and was suffering from an assortment of medical issues. Not only did he help get me medically in a much better place he did it with kindness, grace, all the while showing love and respect to me-- it did wonders for my self-confidence considering everyone had always ridiculed me for my condition. To be treated with respect felt strangely like home with Dr. Bean from the very first time I met with him. For the next several years he would ask about my life and would become my friend, not because he felt obliged because were paying for his services, but because he genuinely cared about my well being. He has quite the presence about him that calms you down and makes you feel like you're talking to a lifelong friend... You just don't see many people like Dr. Bean in the world today-- he's as close to the perfect doctor and neurologist as you're ever going to find. The only issue I ever had was scheduling my first appointment with him-- the wait for initial patients is a few months (WELL WORTH IT, do not let this discourage you. If you have a child that needs his attention, DO IT.) Fast forward about 7 years later and I'm finishing up college and am very successful and medically stable. I owe it to him... God put him in my life when I needed him the most and I thank God every day for his wonderful care. Truly an amazing doctor and a wonderful person.
He is the best doctor you can ask for. He spends the time with you that's needed without looking at the clock. He is worth the wait if needed because you know he'll give you his undivided attention. He also has no problems figthing with your insurance co for something that you need. He's got a great sense of humor. He deserves higher than a 4
I have absolutely no faith in doctors. I spent years being miss diagnosed, then I had a daughter who needed a miracle....in walked Dr Bean. I first met him when my daughter was 9 years old. Within 10-15 minutes of meeting him, he diagnosed her with complex partial seizures. When we could not get them under control he promised he would not stop until WE found out what was going on. When she was 15, he found out she has MoyaMoya. If not for Dr Bean my beautiful daughter would be dead today. Dr. Charles Bean is truly a miracle worker.
