Dr. Charles Whittenburg

If you’re a prior service military member seeking post service treatment, never use this Surgeon… Ever. My Wife is a U.S Marine that was medically separated due to hip issues. After years of Doctor’s visits and operations, we moved to Texas where I’m currently stationed, this man essentially told my Wife she has no business seeking treatment because she’s 23 years old. Refusing to look into any of her medical documents from the past, he kept rambling on and on and on about just dealing with it because of her age. Very unprofessional, poor communicator and a lack of social skills. Use any orthopedic surgeon other then this guy! ????????

I would like to add to my review, that I did write this guy a letter. Never got a response.Walk Fast away from him.Dont let him touch your elderly parent. I am just as ANGRY now, as I was in 2016. Just an ARROGANT jerk.

I am wondering where my original review went? This "Dr." was apparently the on call Dr. for MCA the day my then 80 year old mom was admitted for SEVERE ,DEBILITATING hip pain. As I was driving up there from Austin, I got a call from my COUSIN. She said that the Dr.had just come to see my mom,and said she did not need surgery. This was a weekend. Once I got there I of course asked to speak to the DR. My mom actually screamed with pain whenever she moved. BTW, she also has some dementia,which this so called Dr.was probably not aware of. She is able to hide it very well. I asked every single day for him to call me. Finally ,a few days later the nurse got hold of his staff. His response was that HE had already spoken to "the family,and didn't need to talk to anyone else". Guess what buddy? I am her next of kin,power of attorney etc. I am also a retired RN. I have had the deep pleasure of working with so many WONDERFUL Docs in my over 40 years if Nursing. I have also worked with a few… nasty,arrogant,jerks. You sir are on top of that list. I now understand why staff at MCA rolled their eyes when I told them of our horrible experience with you. My mom was diagnosed with AVASCULAR NECROSIS. Guess What? She NEEDED A HIP REPLACEMENT. She is now mobile. No thanks to you. It looks like you were able to take my original review down,at least partially. I will continue to post my review of you. You appear to be young enough to change your ways. I hope you do. When employees of the hospital you work at seem to understand the anger of family or patients,you know that you need to make a change. If your parent's are ever in a horrible staye as my mom,I truly hope that you get better treatment from the Dr.that you teust to take care of thrm. You misdiagnosed,and then would not take 5 minutes of your precious time to speak with the DAUGHTER of an elderly woman who was in horrific pain.

Was great prior to surgery but since then can only be described as pathetic. He actually mocked me when I said I couldn't walk. Refused to look at my knee despite the fact that it swelled greatly, turned red and hot to the touch two months after surgery. But according to him, "It's fine it just happens." And when pressed, he said, "what do you think is wrong with it?" And when I said, "Well you're supposed to be the doctor," his response was "I don't like your attitude." Well guess what, I didn't like his attitude either.

My 80 year old mother was admitted to MCA on Friday,July 7 for severe,debilitating hip pain. She has been dealing with this for a very long time and we have tried to get her relief by every means possible. Unfortunately this Dr.was on call as the orthopedic surgeon that day. My aunt was first told that my mom had a hip fracture,and would need a hip replacement. This was from the E.R doctor. The next day this man came to see my mom. My cousin happened to be in the room at that time. He apparently was telling my (very confused) mom his assessment,and that she did not need surgery. Of course we had questions. Her Hospitalist came in when I arrived from Austin. He told me to have Dr.W called by the nurse so that we could discuss options. I have been an RN for 42 years. I did recognize that I might not hear back from him over the weekend,and really did not have a problem with that. HOWEVER,on Monday,my mom's nurse tried to have him call me by calling his office.A few minutes later she came… back and told me that his"assistant returned her call. His message to me was that he had already spoken to the family,she would not be getting surgery. He REFUSED to speak to me.I had never met this guy,but he is too busy to speak to the person that is on my mom's release of information form. As I said,I have been an RN for 42 years. I have worked WITH hundreds of wonderful physicians. I have also worked with some arrogant,jerks. Thank God,they are the minority. This doctor falls into that category. I sincerely hope that if he has a parent that is in this same situation that he will give him 5 minutes of his precious time. Every single person that we dealt with at MCA deserves 5 stars except this man. What a shame.

Couldn't ask for a better doctor. Really went with me thorough this process and I never felt uninformed or alone!

Did not do the proper surgery. Overall, everything within the office is great. However, Dr. Whittenburg, knowing I had a tear, went in my shoulder, did a little cleaning, but did not repair the actual tear in the rotator. I had to have a second surgery to get the proper repair. I would NOT recommend him. I should have filed a lawsuit. the extra time for the second repair and rehab ended up costing me my 25-year career.

Doc was incredibly late for surgery and never apologized. Kept introducing himself to me like it was the first time we met and I'm a patient. Just minutes before surgery- gave info never stated about my condition and acted like a jerk. Does not spend time with patients. Horrible bedside manner. Hoping I don't have to go to another doc to fix things after this surgery.

I am really disappointed with his office staff. Medicare has a rule the pain meds have to last 10 days but his nurse pa in his office has a rule you have to wait 24 to 48 hours for the refill. Took it to get filled on Thurs am (they leave early Fri) thinking it would give them 24 hours. Was told (by her)he was out of town would be filled either Fri or Sat. No refill until Monday am. This is very disappointing for a patient only 8 weeks out! She's got way to much control in his office!

this doctors staff is not sensitive to patient needs. It took 48 hours to refill a pain med RX and then it took 3 phone calls.
