Dr. Charlotte Shum, MD

Dr. Shum is awesome. Super smart, personable, and great at what she does. I would go back to her any day! The office is very well set up with OT and X-ray on site, process is very streamlined without feeling like a patient factory. I don't want to injure my hand again, but if I did, I would love to see Dr. Shum again!

Dr. Shum inserted a titanium plate to treat my distal radial fracture. This is a very common operation. Following surgery she said that a bone had escaped from the plate. She wanted to operate to fix the problem and there would be a second surgery to fuse bones. She was defensive. She showed little interest in searching literature for other such cases. Because of her surgery, I needed more surgery. I had surgery with a different physician at a different hospital. He is known for fixing unsucessful surgeries.

Dr. Shum prescribed a painkiller for me that created an ulcer. When I tried to speak to Dr. Shum about the rather horrible symptoms I was having, I could get neither her nor her nurse to talk to me about it. Eventually, I ended up in the E.R. where the ulcer was accurately diagnosed. Post diagnosis, I still could not get Dr. Shum to help me obtain the necessary follow-up with a G.I. specialist. It took 6 months to recover from the original Rx problems, and throughout Dr. Shum never cared to personally return a call or follow up.
