Summary
I grew up in San Diego and completed medical school and residency training at UCLA. I became involved in international medicine for the first time in medical school, and it was a life-changing experience for me. I had opportunities to work in Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador, Mexico, and Malawi during my training. Those early experiences in medical school and residency led me to a full-time opportunity in Africa after I completed my residency. I spent two and a half years working at a pediatric HIV clinic in Bostwana before returning to San Diego in December 2008. I learned a lot about caring for children with limited resources during that time. I feel that my experiences overseas made me a better pediatrician for my patients back here at home.
