Dr. Cheolsu Shin

I sought answers to my needs at Mayo (Rochester) beginning in the spring of 2009. I have had epilepsy all my life and Rx was working well for many years until approximately 2005. Dr. Shin was able to pinpoint the "trouble-area" in my brain as I sat in St.Mary's Hospital's EEG monitoring ward, ultimately using the SPECT scan to illuminate the precise area to be removed, if possible. As surgery is often seen as a last resort, all other avenues were first exhausted. I'd already tried about 6 or seven rx's that only made me worse or that just weren't suitable for me. I may be the oddball, but I didn't (and don't) look at surgery - yes brain surgery - as daunting or even scary. The reason is actually quite simple: Dr. Shin and the rest of my doctors at Mayo exude confidence -- Not the pompous, self-important, overly confident type of way, but the truly intelligent brand -- Dr. Shin listens to you, he asks questions, he makes sure you understand, he doesn't push or urge, he… includes you and offers the best - most successful treatment plan....and I was happy to have one. Some epileptics do not. This is why I was kind of excited to be a prime candidate for adult epilepsy surgery. My confidence rating for Dr. Shin = 500% --- there aren't enough stars offered above :) I'm back home in DC from my annual post-op check up and all is still well. Not to jinx myself, but I'm seizure free now since May 2009!!! Thank you's to Dr. Shin + Dr. Marsh (my very excellent neorosurgeon who performed my surgery) These people ARE HEROES!

He is very smart and investigates options thoroughky and carefully.
