He prescribed Seroquil to my elderly father who has dementia; according to the Seroquil website: "Increased Mortality in Elderly Patients with Dementia-Related Psychosis: Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis treated with antipsychotic drugs are at an increased risk of death. SEROQUEL XR is not approved for the treatment of patients with dementia-related psychosis." DO NOT LET THIS MAN ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR ELDERLY LOVED ONES.

I too am not sure what the negative reviewers are talking about. When I called his office to inquire about scheduling an evaluation for my Dad, Dr. Merkl called me himself the same day and even managed to see my Dad that day too. He called me again after completing his evaluation, and gave me a candid assessment of my Dad's condition and abilities. No recommendation for narcotics (he was in fact against this) or forced institutionalization. Perhaps the negative reviewers didn't hear what they wanted to hear, but that's hardly the Doctors fault. I found Dr. Merkl to be professional and courteous.

I've had a great experience with Dr. Merkl. Whenever I have had a question he calls back promptly. He has been very helpful getting the information needed to start my long term care insurance. I've read several other reviews that were not too positive, but given my experince I am very pleased. It seems as though some of these other people that write poor reviews think they have more experience than the doctor.

One star is generous for this doctor. Was rude to me on phone. Refused to meet in person about my Father. Asked my Father only four leading Questions and committed him to a psych ward. Not impressed. Surely there are more caring psychartrits available.

Dr. Merkl has been very professional with us. He comes to mom's residence within 24 hours of being called, and he always calls me afterwards to discuss the visit and treatment. He is willing to reduce medications to see if there are positive reactions and tries different things to manage mom's depression and anxiety.
