The first session I had with Dr. Vento was great. I felt heard, she didn't really push the meds at first because I had told her that I would prefer to treat my depression without medication. The second time I saw her, she was like a completely different person. She was very cold, uncaring, and she rushed the session and practically cut me off. I feel like she's great if you want to take medication. When I reiterated my reluctance to take meds for depression, it seemed as if she was not respectful of that. It's as if she got upset that I didn't want to take medication. I also expressed having thoughts of suicide (which she did not check up on). I've seen this woman a total of seven times, and just when I think she may be a trustworthy psychologist, she makes a snide comment or is condescending. But, what can you do when you don't have insurance and you can't find another psychologist that will agree to see you after-hours once a month? I would go to another psychologist if I had the resources and knew of another psychologist who would agree to see me after 5pm (because that's when I get off work). I think people are better off finding a more competent and compassionate psychologist than Dr. Vento. Only see her if you're in a situation like the one I currently find myself in (no insurance and work schedule that doesn't allow me to see someone on the regular).
Dr Vento met my needs in a careful and compassionate way. She listens. She asks the right questions. She understood my limited finances and worked with me in a supportive way. I found Dr Vento very available to me in following my case and adjusting meds to my needs as they progressed. I seldom write reviews, but I urge you to give her your trust.
My son (in his 20's) had concerns about possible attention deficit problems. At the time of his first visit he was given a prescription that had potentially dangerous (suicidal) side effects with a current medication. As a retired medical professional, I'm shocked that she prescribed what she did before giving my son some non-drug alternatives to try. Luckily my son is ok but only experiencing a very close call medically.
