Dr. Christine Shieh, MD

Dr. Shieh is ill-suited to be a surgeon and she knows this. She is so afraid about doing any surgery, she makes up reasons to delay surgery, causing patients to come back for unnecessary appointments until she is “ready”. Dr. Shieh’s Physician’s Assistant told me, and I quote: “Dr. Shieh is almost paranoid about doing surgery.” My experience was for cataract surgery. She told me I have ecstasia which could interfere with surgery…asked me to come back in three months to see if it is stable or progressing. Came back, she said it had not progressed but she still wasn’t ready to do the surgery and to come back in six months. Then two other prominent cataract surgeons said I have no ecstasia, that Dr. Shieh had misread the “scans.” I pointed all this out to Vanderbilt Eye Institute but they refused to even review her. Dr. Shieh should take responsibility for her personality quirks, but VEI is ultimately responsible for "shielding" her for their own interests. Unconscionable at best.
