Dr. Coufal is one of two full-time orthopedic trauma surgeons at Muir Orthopaedic Specialists. He has extensive experience in fracture care, including fractures of the pelvis and accetabulum, and specialized in Ilizarov techniques for the treatment of acute fractures, alunions, non-unions, and correction of angular deformities. He sees both pediatric and adult fracture patients. Dr. Coufal began practicing medicine in 1998. He completed his medical school and orthopedic residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He is a fellowship trained orthopedic traumatologist from Henry Ford and Detroit Receiving Hospitals in Michigan. Currently he is a full-time orthopedic trauma surgeon at John Muir Medical Center, the regional trauma center.

I have had several surgeries in my lifetime and Dr Coufal has been the best surgeon by far..I met him during an trauma er visit and he took very good care of me..and his after care was just as well..very detailed with his explanations and made sure I understood everything..

He provided me with amazing care following a shattered elbow. Performed a radial head arthroplasty and prepared me very well for the surgery and what to expect after. Through the course of recovery, he was there to guide and advise and we had follow up appointments monthly for a year post op. Really good demeanor, very smart, and direct. Kind and caring and friendly, and no ego. I count my blessings I got this surgeon following an extremely traumatic injury.

Dr.Coufal wonderful! Very caring and patient. He repaired my tibia plateau fracture in Dec 2023. He did ha great job. Unfortunately I had to have a bar and seven pins put in to hold my leg together.

Dr. Coufal repaired my broken ankle through surgery. Excellent doctor. His expertise was even talked about by the hospital staff. His objective is to get you up and moving and back to normal as quickly as possible

This doctor jumped in to help me when I was desperate with a broken femur. He fixed what would have been a devastating break in a leg already compromised and he has given me myalife. You can depend on him absolutely and surely to take the best care of you that you can imagine. In the world of surgery he is the best.

Outstanding MD - The absolute best at what he does, bedside manner is amazing. Just can't say enough good things about the experience. Still under his care and very thankful he was available when the trauma occured.
