Dr. Cory Daniel Mcnamara, MD

Based on his comments, I don’t think he is well suited for treating people with “normal” run-of-the-mill mental and behavioral health problems outside of a facility. He said things like, “if you were hospitalized I could monitor you to see what your reaction to the medication was.” This comment was particularly odd given that I visited him because I thought I might benefit from finally getting treated for the ADHD I was diagnosed with as a child. I told him that the lack of focus and work problems stemming from ADHD were leading me to become anxious about missing appointments and being late with assignments at work and that it was leading me to be a bit sad at times. To this, he got quite confused and asked me if I wanted to be treated for depression, anxiety, or ADHD—because he “cannot treat them all.” I said, “well perhaps, I don’t need medication at all and I am just in the wrong job.” This frustrated and confused him even more. Ultimately he said he would… give me a prescription for Wellbutrin. Which is fine, but I could have already gotten that from my primary care doctor. I went to a psychiatrist looking for better insight into why this might be a good medication. In all, I don’t think he did anything to (1) get a proper diagnosis, (2) rule out any possible underlying physiological conditions, or (3) determine if medication was even the right course of action given my concerns. Lastly, he seemed less knowledgeable about certain journal publications in his own field than I am. The only reason I give him two stars instead of one is that I think this sort of ineptitude may be par for the course in his profession. But I’m really not sure as he is the first psychiatrist I have ever visited.
