Dr. Dale Shelley Jacknow, MD

Dr. Jacknow has worked with both our boys for over 10 years. She helped us navigate challenging issues and I am happy to report that at the ages of 16 and 18, our boys are successful, happy and thriving. I credit much of this to our partnership with Dr. Jacknow. Her evaluations, diagnosis, medications prescribed and referrals helped us navigate our unique challenges. The hardest part of having kids with special needs is getting the right team of support in place. Dr. Jacknow was our cornerstone. I cannot say enough positive things about her.

Dr. Jacknow has been taking care of our 8 year old kid with ASD for the last two years. She has been terrific in all aspects. Thorough, compassionate, flexible with schedules, and most importantly her treatment helped our kid make real solid progress. We also found her to be a great source of support for ourselves - as she is able to listen to our concerns and provide us with renewed hope. Super highly recommended.

We are so grateful to Dale Jacknow for all she has done for our son and our family. Our son, who has Fragile X Syndrome and Autism, has seen Dr. Jacknow for about 16 years. She has taken extraordinary care of us through many very tough behavioral times. She is incredibly smart, compassionate, wise and thorough. She has an amazing knowledge of medications which alone, makes her worth her weight in gold. If you've been out there with other psychiatrists or behaviorists, you can understand what I mean. Dr. Jacknow is incredibly competent and a truly wonderful human being.

Dr. Jacknow clarified our child's diagnosis and set us on a path that made sense. She saved us countless hours and dollars by directing us to meaningful interventions.

Dr Jacknow followed our child for 13 of his 16 years, and we have just concluded this journey, so this seemed a fitting time to write this review. If you have concerns about your child's development, you understand the fear and sadness that may come with taking the steps to get an assessment and possible diagnosis. This is not what any parent expects to be doing with a toddler or young child, and it is not for the faint of heart. But your child needs you to act, so you do. Once you start to look for the right person to see your child, you are thinking about someone with the expertise to get it right--that's mostly what you think about: please let me find someone who will tell us what's going on and who knows what she/he is talking about. There are definitely experts out there. But what you may not realize, as you start the process, is that you need someone who not only is an expert in the field of child development (and ideally has a medical background) but also has two other crucial… pieces you will need: (1) The ability to put her/his finger on the pulse of YOUR child. (2) The resources to put a plan into action; a person who knows the BEST people in their fields. Dr. Jacknow, in addition to being a developmental pediatrician, with the expertise and credentials, has those two crucial pieces that you must find in order to not only make, but to sustain a plan for your particular child as she/he grows and changes. She has an uncanny ability to know the child she is working with. Her years of experience and innate understanding of children make her an expert in YOUR child. It's amazing and comforting at the same time. And that understanding is what will help her develop the right plan for your child and guide her in recommending individuals to work with her/him. And Dr. Jacknow knows the best therapists. It's critical to work with people who can really impact your child, and she has those resources for you so that you can focus on implementing a plan rather than finding the people you need. Make no mistake, there may be a lot of work ahead of you and your child. But having a partner like Dr. Jacknow is the best way to get through this journey knowing you have done everything possible for your child and your family.

I am a therapist working in the same community as Dr. Jacknow. She is a highly respected professional because of her excellent work, and I have referred many families to her. When my own daughter began showing signs of developmental problems, I called Dr. Jacknow right away. Her work is thorough and thoughtful and she is a smart, kind and compassionate individual. We have been working with the specialists she referred us to and are already seeing changes in our child. We have a long road ahead of us, and I am incredibly glad Dr. Jacknow is a member of the team.

Dr. Jacknow is amazing-very smart and very supportive. She has evaluated both of our children. They each have very different issues. Our son has autism while our daughter has a learning disability. Dr. Jacknow was really thorough and thoughtful in her approach. Both my kids really liked her, even my son who has trouble warming up to people. Before the evaluations I really had no idea what to do to help them because there is so much information out there and it is really hard to know what the right thing is. The most helpful part for us was that Dr. Jacknow gave us really clear advice and also told us what to focus on and what was not important. She also helped us sort out what is typical kid stuff and what is actually related to their problems. Because of her, both of my kids have really made progress. Our initial wait was long, but it was totally worth waiting to get in to see her.

Dr. Jacknow is highly knowledgeable professional who helped us tease out our child's learning needs. She doesn't just jump to a diagnosis or a conclusion, she takes time to analyze the presenting symptoms and always leads discussions emphasizing the child's potential. I consider myself pretty well-educated but still somehow missed some signals in our child's behavior which, when she pointed them out, truly resonated with us and made it easier to provide the right kind of support for our child in the classroom and at home. It would be a bit more convenient if she enabled online communications with her office even just for scheduling discussion purposes, but otherwise we are very happy customers.
