I was not looking forward to a second surgery. But my problems with the shoulder were getting worse and the screws and plate holding the arm together failed. I am SO glad I went to Dr. Guttmann! He cleaned out scar tissue, cut the long bicep and replaced the plate and screws. It's been 6 months since surgery, I'm pain free and my range of motion and strength are better than they have been for the last four+ years! Pre and post op experience was great. He communicated well with my PT. He's great!
Dr. Guttmann did a second rotator cuff repair for me. The original was 15 years ago. He not only was able to reconstruct my right shoulder, but it was an easy surgery and recovery has been remarkable. I am 10 weeks post-op and 62 years old. I fully expect to have complete use of my shoulder going forward for the rest of my life. This was minimally invasive, and I can't recommend Dr. Guttmann and his staff highly enough. He truly is a world-class surgeon. Well worth the trip to Taos.
Dr. Guttmann is, by far, one of the finest surgeons I've ever seen. He's very professional when out of the operating room and, I understand, quite the professional in the OR. He follows up with his patients and is truly THE best! The nurses at Holy Cross Hospital in Taos are exceptional as well. They know what Dr. Guttmann wants and they have such a respect for him. I'll definitely go back to him if the need occurs and I definitely recommend him to anyone needing shoulder surgery!
Six years after rotator cuff surgery by Dr. Guttmann, and sixteen years after the first RC surgery (by a different surgeon), pain has become uncomfortable again. Dr. Guttmann has made my life, on and off the tennis court, much more comfortable by administering two successive steroid shots to the involved shoulder at 4mo interval. He has suggested a platelet rich plasma injection for the next recurrence. I'll gladly put myself in his care then, and in the future.
Dr. Guttman gave me no information as to what he thought was wrong. Recommended one unconventional treatment, but gave no information about how to pursue it. Also recommended I see an acupuncturist, which is not anything I am interested in. I may look like some sort of hippie to him, but I found the suggestion insulting and unprofessional. Did not go to an MD get a referral for acupuncture. Wanted me to pursue physical therapy, but the therapist refused to treat me until I had a concrete diagnosis from this (or another) doctor, as he felt the potential for injury from the therapy was too great. Not sure if I just hit Dr. Guttman on a bad day or what, but nothing about this visit made any sense.
