Dr. Darsham Y Gonzalez has the following 1 specialty
- Internal Medicine
An internist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic.
These doctors are often who adults see as their primary physicians because they treat a broad range of illnesses that do not require surgical or specialist interventions. They also work to help a patient maintain optimal health in order to prevent the onset of disease.
In addition to treating the common cold and flu, internists also treat chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

I first saw Dr. Darsham Gonzalez at Interecoastal Medical over a year ago and was very impressed with his bedside manner and his intellect. However, this past winter was a nightmare for me. During one visit the doctor looked at me and said, "If you are expecting 1970's doctoring I am not the doctor for you, I'm too busy for that." I wasn't clear why he said that to me but was clear in his meaning. I also felt like he resented the fact that I did research before visiting him and came prepared with questions. I left Sarasota for the summer in May and received a priority mail letter informing me that he was discharging me from his practice, with no explanation suggesting I call the medical society or telephone book for a new doctor. Dr. Gonzalez didn't even suggest I switch to another doctor in their very large practice. Well, I am so angry right now. I feel I did absolutely nothing to be discharged from this practice. I had to call the the office and leave two messages a week a part just to get the office manager to return my call. I just spoke with her and she told me she had avoided returning my call as she knew I wanted to discuss the matter. She told me the doctor was within his rights to discharge me and owed me no further explanation and she had no intention of discussing the matter with me. I asked her why he didn't just suggest I try another doctor in their very large practice and she told me it wasn't his responsiblity to help me find another doctor. As a former business owner, I feel this is very bad customer service. There appears to be an acceptance of rudeness on their part while no allowance for a patient who is ill or worried. In all my years of seeking medical assistance I have never experienced this type of treatment. It is both embarrassing and emotionally painful. I want to prevent any of my Sarasota friends from the same humiliation and pray you don't have to ever deal with this office manager, when I asked her for her name she hung up on me. I called the office back and her name is Sheila Eagan. I also asked the front desk if I could switch to another doctor in the office and she said she didn't believe so but it would up to the office manager and I don't think I want another round with her. I found another yelp review for a different Intercoastal Medical office and they were discharged as a patient as well, so this doesn't appear to be an isolated case. The Potter office was very convenient for me and being a type 1 diabetic I was relieved to have a doctor where I spend half of my year but this marriage ended in an ugly divorce. I really didn't want to take this route as I don't enjoy saying unkind things but I believe knowledge is a powerful tool and I don't want to see another person humiliated this way.
I had gone without a doctor for many years and a bout with the flu caused me to see Dr. Gonzalez. My first visit put all my "doctor fears" to rest, as he spent time to get to know me and helped me understand my ailment. His bedside manner surpassed any other doctors i had gone to in the past. His encourangement for me to make some changs in my lifestyle has improved my health dramatically. I referred a friend and they were equally impressed. Dr. Gonzalez is not the average doctor - he is an exceptional one!
I have never had my time waisted so much by a doctor. My first appointment, he tried to get me off my daily medication cause it is "not a good drug" despite the fact that I have been taking it successfully for years to treat a condition. Also, I am over 50 and male, and he refused to even consider testosterone. Every appointment had me waiting at least an hour past my scheduled time. It was impossible to get my meds refilled. It didn't matter if I called them in the day of or a week ahead, they never called me that the script was ready to pick up, and if I walked in to get it, it was never, repeat NEVER, ready. Occassionally, it was not even in the system and I would be told to come back in 2 days. When it was "on his desk" I would still wait an hour for him to actually sign it for me. (Once, he was out and I got referred to the other doctor that shares the building and I had it in minutes.)The office staff was usually rude. They never asked me for a co-pay, then slapped me with a past due bill for 100.00, and then while I was straightening it out with my insurance, I was discharged for not paying, without being notified. When I immediately paid the stupid bill, I was told he still wouldn't take me back on, and he refused to give me a script for my daily maintenence meds, so I had to go without until I found another doctor. I wanted to give 0 stars in the review, but that wasn't an option.
