Mr D Hanscom: crippled me when he screwed up my back which turned into adhesive arachnoiditis and I am in pain 24/7 due to his sloppy work he escaped to Idaho for years till everything cleared and there is no record of all his patients he injured. I am thinking of sending his records to the state to be made public, now he says no back surgery follow his book accupunture, breathing exercises, relaxation, well I tried all that even went to Asia for the real treatment with no success.. His book might work for some people but not the ones he did surgery on.

All he talks about is his book. He recommendations consists of write twice a day and rip it up. That should helps get rid of pain......he had a horrible bedside manner. Doesn't care what you have to say and doesn't say what he found in the x-rays

I was referred to this doctor after I contacted Swedish Neuro-spine to see if they had a doctor who performed laminoplasty surgery microscopicly. Two neurosurgeons told me I have severe cervical stenosis and after years of active pain management and physical therapy I need surgery now to stop the progression of symptoms. Dr Hanscom breezed into the room with his entourage (scribe, fellow, follower) handed me a copy of his book and said I don't have cervical stenosis and don't need surgery but he's written this book which he's giving me for free and he has a website that my husband and I can use to eliminate my pain. He flashed over the MRI that miraculously didn't show stenosis (two neurosurgeons carefully went over it with me and showed me severe stenosis but in less than thirty seconds Dr Hanscom reviewed it with me and miraculously it's gone! Same MRI!). He had his speech promoting his program and if I follow it step by step I will be pain free. He said he used have pain (which I am… sure is equal to mine) and he eliminated his pain with this program. He blew off my questions and kept plowing through his speech. He was not interested in me or all the pain management therapy I've been through over the past five years and the surgical recommendations I've received. He told me neck surgery only makes the pain worse and I should avoid it. My husband tried to get him to listen to me but he was so focused on getting through his speech and he was out the door in ten minutes. Ten minutes! I can't wait to see what he billed my insurance. I almost threw his book in the trash on the way out. We drove for four hours for this appointment and the man was too arrogant to address me as a patient and my concerns. I just paid out of pocket to have the MRI reviewed again and the diagnosis is severe cervical stenosis and it is surgical because of the numbness in my fingertip, the shooting pain in my arms and the severe neck pain.

His approach is irresponsible. His book would have to believe that you can just pull yourself out of the deep abyss of chronic pain. He should be ashamed of himself and the large amounts of money he is charging giving seminars, lectures, and selling his books. I would look elsewhere for help-perhaps from an ortho that actually treats patients.

I have seen Dr Hansom twice for serious back issues â?? I would see no other. After exhausting all non-surgical options, I found myself in Dr Hansom's office. He explained, in detail, exactly what the surgery entailed and, more importantly, the potential for complications. Further, he covered the necessity of post-operative physical therapy and the importance of maintaining proper weight and physical strength. He made certain that I understood the limitations of the proposed surgery and recommended that that I take time to think about it before moving forward. I waited 30 days â?? I simply could not stand the continued pain â?? then called his office to be scheduled for the operation. That same night I received a phone call from Dr Hanscom; he just wanted to be certain that I understood what would happen during and after the surgery and what the limitations were. That was 25 years ago and I am still going strong. Back problems are not like a broken bone that will heal… and be 'as good as new' You, the patient, MUST play a significant role in your recovery and in maintaining your strength and proper weight for the rest of your life.

When I was hurting and I could not walk, he told me to put my hand on the lap and think about the hand instead of back. He then recommended for psychiatric evaluation because this is what he routinely does. The pshyciatrist was just as strange as he was. I would not see this man for any reason.

I have been going to him for over 15 years. He has always been truthful with me and if I do as he tells me I do great.

My Wife has lived with Chronic back pain for years. She has gone to surgeons and doctors for years and they always provide more pain killers and other pills. Then they want to cut and tell you that they are not sure if it will help. Dr. Hanscom took the time to listen and share with her another path to wellness that did not include a knife. She began following the plan that was outlined by Dr. Hanscom and her use of medication has dropped dramatically and her attitude is much better and she is enjoying life for the first time in many years and has started riding her horse again. It is a process and it will take time, but she believes with the help of Dr. Hanscom she will be able to live a pain free life without medication. I read the other review mentioning the book from Dr. Hanscom and it was one of many that she was encouraged to read and we purchased it from Amazon and it was never pushed on us only mentioned as a place to start. We have found the process that Dr.… Hanscom has created to be so worthwhile and effective that we have mentioned it to other doctors and we know that in one case the other doctors Father in law had back surgery that was not effective and he is now seeing Dr. Hanscom. If you truly want to get better, and understand that there are no miracle cures and the process does take time, you will benefit from seeing Dr. Hanscom.
