Dr. David M Aboulafia has the following 4 specialties
A hematology specialist is an expert in disorders of the blood, the blood forming organs and bone marrow. These doctors diagnose, treat and work to prevent diseases that affect the production of blood and its components, as well as the ability of the blood to perform its many functions, such as coagulation and carrying oxygen to the lungs and tissue.
Hematologists diagnose and treat blood disorders, such as anemia, hemophilia, leukemia, sickle cell anemia, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
Depending on the condition, hematology specialists may treat a patient with a blood transfusion, stem cell transplantation, bone marrow transplant, radiotherapy, anticoagulation therapy or medication.
- Medical Oncology
Think of an oncologist as your main physician for cancer care. After being diagnosed, you’ll meet regularly with an oncologist to explore and manage your treatment options, as well as monitor your condition throughout the process. Medical oncologists are extremely knowledgeable in various types of cancer treatment and can recommend the right method for the type and stage of cancer you’re facing.
They may also refer you to additional specialists throughout your care, but they will always be your home base for questions and support. It’s also worth mentioning that medical oncologists deal mostly with solid tumors while hematologists specialize in cancers that involve blood disorders, such as leukemia.
- Internal Medicine
An internist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic.
These doctors are often who adults see as their primary physicians because they treat a broad range of illnesses that do not require surgical or specialist interventions. They also work to help a patient maintain optimal health in order to prevent the onset of disease.
In addition to treating the common cold and flu, internists also treat chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

I have seen Dr. Aboulafia for many years... 2007- Present. (for Essential Thrombocythemia) He is a very knowledgeable, sensitive, & caring Dr., that takes pride in what he does. He cares very much about his patients, and strives to do what he feels is best for his patients. I don't always agree with him, but he allows me the space & time I need to think things over, then an agreement is made. I am "Blessed" to have him for my Dr., & would highly recommend him! :) Ps. I don't believe a Dr. With this type of job should have a 5 * for promptness do to unpredictability with the type of patients he sees. (just allow a little extra time... It will come back to you, cause he is not rushy!) Promptness is about a 3 1/2 stars for good reason.
I've had occasion to see Dr. Aboulafia a few times over the years. Before I didn't like him but he had such a nice demeanor I felt maybe it was just my bad mood from being ill. Recently I saw him again and ended up very frustrated dealing with him. He absolutely would not listen to me, essentially said black was white and up was down and cut me off repeatedly. When I had a reaction to a drug I had a reservation about he said I made up the reaction because I didn't want to do the drug initially. In follow up communications his rash, jump to judgement conclusions made it clear he had not listened to me at all.
My first and only visit with this doctor ended in a disaster. He was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I was there to transition my adult son from pediatric hematology to adult hematology and his first line of questioning was "Are you married and how long?" Followed by. "Obviously not to his father!" I considered him to be extrememly unprofessional and my son and I walked out during the initial intake.
