Dr. David Joseph Bene, MD

Dr. D. Bene is a good doctor, he is just overwhelmed and under a lot of pressure. He needs a good assistant. I was a patient of his for at least over 10 years and I could tell his practice was slipping. He told me at one visit that I had cataracts and then two visits later he said he didn't see any cataracts. Well, they don't go away on their own so something was wrong. I came to the point where I could not get any answers, so I left the practice. Had to watch him at every turn. I did not want to leave. Now I find out I have bad cataracts and Glaucoma from another doctor. He needs office help and a good refractive doctor. I had to move on.

Was having vision problems & pain was diagnosed with Uveitis & he prescribed a topical steroid & another eye drop. For 1 entire wk no improvement in vision, it was actually worse. - found out after he discontinued the use of Cyclopentolate that the medication itself was making my vision worse. He never thought to tell myself or my husband this important information! Here my family & I thought the worst that I was going blind! He should also check patient charts before coming into the room - at our 1 wk follow up he introduced himself to us & asked me what he was seeing me for today. I had to tell him you diagnosed me last wk with Uveitis & sent me for bloodwork. Horrible! Am currently looking for a new ophthalmologist.

My first visit: eye exam. Took me into the office 30 minutes late. It took THREE hours to complete a simple exam simply because he kept leaving the room to see other patients. He even did one test twice because he forgot he did it. Never put anything in my eyes that mandated a wait. He just overbooked. Very poor treatment. Second visit: Went in for contact lenses. A young man took me into an office and handed me the contacts. Didn't ask if I wanted to wash my hands. Didn't hand me a mirror. I was in the exam seat and he expected me to just pop them in with no instruction or mirror. I had to ask. He took me to another office with a mirror, and left me. Again, no instructions. He came back maybe 5 minutes later and noticed I was just sitting there and asked if I needed help (DUH). He sent back a lady who helped me a LOT. Kudos to her. Wish I had her name to give proper kudos. Contacts aren't for me. Had the prescription for glasses filled, and wouldn't you know it? … Wrong prescription. I could see long distance, but the prescription was blurry for reading. I wasn't going back even if he had given me another free exam, so I had to go to another doctor, pay for another exam, and do it all over again. Will never go back. First time I have ever written a review for a doctor. Thought I should share my experience.

Wrote that I have PTSD. When I became anxious during the exam he kept repeating,"what's wrong with you?" I shouldn't have to explain my reason for having PTSD TO him.

Needs to have more eye contact with patient and show more concern. He comes off as being condescending and had a problem acting compassionate. In the end he referred me to someone else, for my problem and wrote me a prescription for lenses a bit higher than 2 other places that I went to.

Very lengthy appointment with much time spent talking about unrelated issues. I didn't feel that I got a comprehensive eye evaluation. Very expensive.

Keeps poodles which are bred for show in his MEDICAL OFFICE like its a kennel! Does not take credit cards, but also does not keep change on hand for cash payments. Have to beg for a receipt at visits. Equipment is old, out of date and generates errors such as needs service or recalibration warnings. After 3 years of treatment found out both diagnosis and treatment were incorrect. Does not like to answer questions.

Since Dr. Dr. Bene has moved to his new office and does not have his sister's office staff who were rude the office visit was pleasant, efficient and effective.

Before my appointment, I had called ahead to make sure the Dr. Bene had received my lab work he ordered. The receptionist quickly told me yes and hung up the phone. When I arrived for my appointment, I sat in a filthy waiting room for over an hour. When I was finally called back Dr. Bene, not only didn't know my name, but didn't have the lab work he ordered.
