Dr. David K Bloomgarden Sr, MD

My late husband was a patient of Dr. Bloomgarden. He was a diabetic and was overweight. The only advice he ever received from Dr. Bloomgarden was to follow a diet. For years, my husband raised the possibility of gastric bypass surgery but was always told by this doctor that he strongly advised against it. "You have to control this yourself" was his repeated order. He had no understanding whatsoever that people with eating disorders cannot just "control it yourself." After years, my husband did undergo surgery. He lost 60 pounds and was able to reduce is insulin use. It was too late, though. His body had already been too damaged, and he died of multiple diabetic-related problems (including amputation, stroke, cardiac arrest, and even more) about two years later, at the age of 67. I blame his doctor for his benighted and judgmental attitudes. For diabetics with eating disorders, "Just control it yourself" is NOT the answer. It's a death sentence.

Dr.Bloomgarden is bright and well spoken.He is an excellent diagnostician.

Based on my experience and talking to a few of his past patients, this doctor has a record of missed diagnosis or inaccurate diagnosis. Be aware!

Normally, I don't like to bad mouth anyone, but I feel it is my moral duty to warn everyone out there condsidering this so called doctor. I was under his care since 1998 for multuiple nodules on my thyroid. My condotion was, as he put it, mild and could be monitored by regular ultrasound check up. During all those years, he only ordered thyroid bipsy once. On a regular check up with my internist he mentioned thyrod biopy. Needless to say that I was diognosed with Stage 4 thyroid cancer and now I have to deal with all the periodic injections/body scan/US and all the emotional trauma that it has brought upon me and my family.
