Dr. David Jee Wei Chao, MD

Dr. Chao has done 2 shoulder surgeries, one on my right shoulder, 6 years ago, and recently on my left shoulder (Dec 2018--rotator cuff repair). Both times Dr. Chao has done such a great job, that I had no pain post surgery and no issues . The staff at Oasis MD has taken great care of me and always have smiles and always have great positive attitudes. I would always go back to Dr. Chao for any other orthopedic surgery because he is very trustful and he is a great surgeon.

There are certain comments on here stating he ruined my knee 12 years ago, or he botched my son's knee and he will never walk. I like someone else find it extremely hard that after a botched surgery you would wait 12 years to say anything + that someone would only write 2 sentences about someone who "botched" their son's knee. I have had 1 of 2 surgeries with Dr.Chao - the second is hopefully taking place at the end of the month. Dr.Chao and his team are nothing but professionals. He spent ~30 mins with me on my pre-op appt for the first surgery and explained everything to me with great detail and why it would be better to split up these surgeries. His surgery center is very professional and so are his offices. he hands INCREDIBLE hands. My scars are almost unnoticeable after 3 weeks post-op. He has the utmost confidence because he is the best /one of the best at what he does. If he is good enough to get Phillip Rivers, Gates, Pastrana, Tony Hawk, Eddie Wall, + numerous other… high profile athletes back to professional shape after a serious injury he will have you back to normal in no time. yeah, there was some trouble with the law and his old partner, but this had nothing to do with surgery and while at first it did make me nervous once I met him I knew - this is my surgeon! 100% would recommend to anyone considering him - make the appointment and just see how you feel. You have to be comfortable with someone who will be cutting you open. I can not thank him enough - while other surgeons said I would have serious knee problems and be lucky to ski again... He said I would be skiing in no time and as long as I took PT seriously ( which so far so good) There is no reason why I shouldn't be back to 95% or greater. This of course after I suffered a torn ACL, PCL, MCL, Meniscus and femoral-patellar tendon. I would trust him with any orthopedic surgery -, especially sports medicine related injuries.

I had a left elbow that was broken repaired by Dr. Chao right before the holiday season. He is super nice and highly skilled in his profession. He came highly recommended by my son in law and family friends that all had work done by him in the past to repair broken bones. After 2 surgeries I am now back to normal and feeling great! My elbow is straight and I am thankful for all he and his awesome staff has done to get me here. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend Dr. David Chao for anyone looking for an excellent orthopedic surgeon!!!!

Had a lateral release done as a 15 year old male. long story short he cut the wrong ligament (lower part of IT band that attaches to knee instead of where it attaches high on knee cap according to current doctor). Also the suregery was infected. Spent 3 days in hospital and my parents ER doctors and hospitalists were unable to get ahold of him. radio silence. He finally showed up - probably drunk - and then would not tell anyone what he did to fix the infection. Never heard from him again. Fast forward 12 years and my knee has never been the same. Please read about this doctors malpractice and investigations from the DEA before you see him.

I shattered my right elbow in a road accident in San Diego with several unique circumstances. I was referred to Dr David Chao. He is without a doubt an extraordinary physician. He is also extremely humble, considerate and the most genuine of gentleman. His staff reflects his values. If you are unfortunate enough to require complicated orthopedic surgery I would recommend you call Dr. Chao.

Doctor Chao made time to see me within 24 hours of my injury, then quickly scheduled a surgery to repair my meniscus. The surgery was a success & my recovery was quick. I previously had seen Doc Chao 9 years ago for a prior knee injury, & his work was incredible then as well. I can't recommend him enough!!!

I would recommend this Ortho Surgeon to ANYONE with sports related injury. His staff is so caring and very helpful. He is an excellent doctor with great knowledge and really makes you feel comfortable. He replaced my ACL and MCL and repaired my meniscus and I was walking the same day (in pain, but walking). I am 3 weeks post operation and I am way ahead in physical therapy and my scars are minimal. He knows what he is doing!

Dr. Chao's promptness to my injury was without compromise. I never waited more then 3 minutes in the waiting room and he initially recommended physical therapy to see if we could avoid surgery. His initial diagnosis was spot on and eventually i opted for the surgery. Within 1 week i had 90% use of my shoulder. It has now been 2 weeks and i hardly notice that i had surgery. thanks Doc. Your a miracle worker.

Both my husband and I have been treated by Dr. Chao. Hubby was first with a knee replacement. Dr. Chao used a technique that left a short scar (about 3 inches). My hubby's recovery was fast and uncomplicated. Later my hubby had the other knee done by different surgeon. THAT procedure left a 9 inch scar and he has had nothing but pain and complications That is why, when it came time to have my shoulder done, I went to Dr. Chao. SOOO happy I did. Instead of a long incision, I have 3 small ones. After two weeks they are already healed. I do have significant post operative pain because Dr. Chao did what seems to me to be fairly aggressive surgery. However, my problem was a rotator cuff that was being "impinged" by a bone spur. Dr. Chao took the spur off plus about 2 cm of bone and cut a redundnat tendon to make the shoulder more mobile. While I still have a lot of swelling, I can certainly move my shoulder and without pain caused specifically by the movement. I… traveled 60 miles to go see Dr. Chao and receive my PT near my home. Interestingly, the Physical Therapists all say that Dr. Chao is the doctor that they and their families go to for shoulders and knees.

I am Very Pleased with my new Knee. Dr Chao did a wonderful job and the follow up was Great. I am recommending him to all my friends !!
