Dr. David W Deaton has the following 2 specialties

  • Thoracic Surgery (Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgery)
  • Vascular Surgery

Vascular surgeons treat and manage disorders in your veins, arteries and your lymphatic system to ensure blood circulation in your heart and in brain is the best it can be. They're well-versed on how your vascular system works with the rest of your body and they can treat conditions that may cause blockages or buildup.
They can perform many of the same diagnostic testing as interventional radiologists can, such as angiography and MRIs. In addition to diagnosis, they provide critical care and treatment for aneurysms, artery blockages and trauma injuries that involve your veins. They can also help patients manage diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol as well as treat artery disease. Treatment for more serious cases might include bypass surgery or surgery to remove plaque.

Very happy with the surgical team at Baystate. Dr. Deaton spent quite a bit of time with us prior and after the surgery explaining the issues, options, and expected outcome. Personable enough to talk with us on our level but with a confidence about him that is unmatched. 4 weeks after and the going is slow but time, nutrition, exercise, and the media are helping. After this experience with his team and Baystate, and the many hours researching other options; I would not hesitate to recommend them over any other group in the state.

First visit.Had to wait 35 minutes while listening to him planning a trip. (Personal not for business)He asks what I am doing here and how I am doing... I am there because it is determined I need a double bypass and a valve repair, what does that mean? How does he think I am feeling? Was not impressed with his personality or lack of it. Has no compassion or not from what I could see anyway. He saw me twice after the surgery which was Oct. 26. After that I saw his assistant, or other colleagues. He has not asked in six months how I am doing. I have seen other associates. I have had a very slow recovery not one good day of health in almost six months. I have received no sympathy or apologies, just always the same old comment "Thats because of your surgery." Like "Suffer fool"I was healthier before the surgery.

Doctor's Response

I apologize to you for the wait time and for your frustration. We strive to give every patient enough time to communicate their needs and address them. Open heart surgery is not a pleasant experience for anyone. We always remain eager to improve our performance and so our door is always open for you to help us do that. We are disappointed that you feel badly and if you would like to talk with us further, please feel free to give our office a call.
