Dr. David Howard Savage, MD

Dr Savage performed open heart surgery on me in February of 2024 at Boswell hospital. The surgery was aborted due to Dr. Savage piercing a vein midway through the surgery. Long story short I almost died, I required a second open heart surgery, I have a DVT that causes my leg to swell and neuropathy in my right foot that hurts all the time. I can honestly say having open heart surgery by Dr Savage was the worst decision of my life. I went into the hospital relatively healthy and am now far worse. I have a list of complaints against Dr. Savage and Boswell hospital who have accepted zero responsibility. Don’t trust the Testimonials

He was exceptional in performing heart surgery in my husband’s leaking heart valve and researching my husband’s rare reaction to warfarin (prescribed by another Dr.) that thickened instead of thining his blood.

This man saved my life. He elected to operate when four other doctors labeled me a lost cause. Its been 16 years and I am not only alive, I am thriving. He was always gentle with me and all members of my family. He did not sugarcoat the truth as he even took me back into the operating room, when I had a 1-2% chance of survival. I must admit he was a bit curt with the nursing staff, but only after he realized that his orders were not being followed and it put me at risk. I am thankful for this man, his skill, and his dedication to his patients.

After what I thought was a routine cath, I was quickly prepped for bypass surgery due to a massive artery blockage. I hadn't met Dr. Savage previously, but he apparently "drew the straw" and performed a six-hour long surgery that literally saved my life. I can't say enough about his expertise and knowledge. Spring of 2017 I needed open heart surgery. A decade old slightly damaged valve had quickly worsened and its incorrect function had damaged another valve. I am a retired attorney having done considerable medical related defense work so I vetted Dr. Savage and others carefully. My son and I found him to be everything I wanted for this unpleasant event. I could give a lot more detail but suffice it to say that it would all be glowing. Two years hence, I have had a wonderful recovery.

Worst experience with a doctor ever. Absolutely no decent bedside manner, rude and dismissive to patient and loved ones. This man was unnecessarily rough with my body diring my recovery, and I shudder to think of how my body was treated during surgery. I developed complications which were seemingly blamed on me. Ultimately I dismissed him from caring for me and used a different provider which resulted in steady progress and healing. What a nightmare!

I had a blown mitral valve. He fixed it and I'm feeling great. Recovery is going a little better than expected.

There's no words big enough to accurately describe Dr. Savage and his side kick Brian Regan, NP. These 2 men were the tools God used to literally save my life. To make a long story short, I had chest pain and shortness of breath for over a year before being given an ultimatum by family members to seek medical attention. Being a nurse, I brushed all the symptoms I was having aside and attributed them to stress, being a few pounds overweight, acid reflux and unfortunately smoking. Dr. Savage and his excellent Nurse Practitioner Brian introduced themselves at my bedside in the cardiac cath lab and that's when I knew I had met my match so to speak and was not going to die on this mans' watch. 3 days before Christmas 2014, Dr. Savage gave me and my family the best gift anyone could ask for...Aortic Valve Replacement. Although we had a couple common set backs through the recovery period, without Dr. David Savage and his counterpart Dr. Arun Kundra of Carolina Cardiology I would have not… survived much longer. I highly recommend Dr. Savage to anyone with surgical cardiothoracic needs. You will not find a more skilled,compassionate professional than this man. Great sense of humor and a class act for both Dr. Savage and Brian Regan when it comes to bedside manor.

I would pick him to do any heart surgery above all. He is a great doctor.

Dr. Savage saw my brother, and was excellent with him, very smart and down to earth. He made my brother feel so much better and we will refer anyone to him that needs this type of medical service.
