Dr. David Hall Hammett, MD

Disorganized standard of care in practice. Highly knowledgeable . However he is very organized in his pursuit of money.

He is the only doctor in Columbia that knows what he is doing. He treats me like family and got to the bottom of my condition very quickly. Unlike the other neurologists who I couldn't understand when they spoke and they had a wait time for a consultation of 3 months. THANK YOU DR. HAMMETT

I suffered a severe Traumatic Brain Injury in 2016. When I was discharged from the Trauma ICU, I received a plethora of literature about "Life with a Traumatic Brain Injury," and one follow up CT scan. The literature was very helpful, being that I could not see at that time. I went to my follow up CT appointment; I was still alive, so that was that. My Psychiatrist and PCP told me that I had to go to a neurologist, and it had to be Dr. David Hammett. I followed their directions. MY LIFE HAS BEEN CHANGED EVER SINCE. I was able to get into The Hammett Clinic within a week . Dr. Hammett met with me and then he ordered an MRI. What is an MRI you say? I do not know because there has not been a doctor in 1.5 years to ever help me and go the extra minute to figure out what is going on. Three days later we met again and I was informed of everything. Dr. Hammett explained everything to me in great detail, in which, I fully comprehended. Dr. Hammett reassured me that all of my symptoms… directly correlated with my MRI. Dr. Hammett sprung into action and I stayed in the office with him until after 9:30PM to create my treatment plan. Life has been amazingly better since the day I walked into The Hammett Clinic. Dr. David Hammett is still my #1, extremely talented, neurologist. I also have a WONDERFUL Wellness and Aesthetic Medicine Clinician, Ms. Avra. I do not know what I would do without them. They are both brilliant and most importantly very efficient with my time, money and care. I highly recommend them because of my experiences. They are family owned, independent specialists whom treat you. and your wallet, with love. I hate that I am writing this randomly today, because I want them all to myself. I cannot be a hypocrite when I tell my students that sharing is caring.

Dr. Hammett is a good listener and is very much focused on helping his patients. However, I experienced significant problems with his staff. One time I called in to have a prescription refilled ( as had been instructed to do) and the person answering the phone was very rude and jumped down my throat because I was taking the particular medication that had been prescribed. I consider that to be very unprofessional behavior for someone in a medical office, especially when that person knows nothing about the patient's medical history. On later contacts she was a bit less rude, but not very cooperative. If I asked for information, I was never called back. I always had to follow up. Other staff were more helpful. If you can avoid the particular employee I described, Dr. Hammett's office might work for you. Otherwise perhaps not.

Dr Hammett did not have time for me. He did not do any physical. He left me to go deal with another patient and then sent a medical assistant or some other staff member to convey his messages. I had more questions. I was told dr Hammett could not come back because he was with a patient. He had left me earlier to deal with aniotger patient. Find another doctor that has time. Maybe he has too many patients. I paid specialist money for nothing. He just didn’t have time.

My very first appointment was at 9am - I did not get to see him until 11 -- 2 hours !!!! no none else was there in the waiting room when I arrived. Every other time I have specified to the receptionist I WANT TO SEE DR HAMMETT -- I always just get to talk with his PA -- and all she does is push drugs that don't work !!!! FIND SOMEPLACE ELSE!!!!!!

Wonderful doctor! I have been going to Dr. Hammett for several years for cervical dystonia. He is kind, patient, answers questions and he truly cares about his patients!

Dr. Hammett and his staff were caring and expedited immediate treatment for me in Charleston at MUSC. The staff followed up on my condition and care. Wonderful, knowledgeable physician and staff! Great care!

I have found Dr. Hammett to be accurate in developing the conditions I suffer from. After working in a CT college and setting up a medical assisting program, I always do background checks on my doctors information he has given me. I have always felt comfortable with both staff and Dr. However, I would like to see my phone calls returned sooner, especially when I need a clearance for surgery. Overall, I am confident and comfortable with my doctor and would recommend him to other individuals.

My criticisms are primarily for the staff. While waiting 2 hours to be seen for my apt, not once did a staff member apologize or update me regarding my long wait. Also, for receptionist Kelsey: if I can see that your bra is coral colored with animal print trim, then you need to wear a shirt with more coverage. Unrelated to my visit....when I called Dr Hammett's nurse (daily for 3 consecutive days), I would have appreciated an apology for not getting back to me within 24 hours as your voicemail says that you will.
