Leaves the work to nurse practitioners and doesn't have time to deal with patients. If you go here, be prepared to do your own research and know as much as you can because there is a lack of knowledge to be faced. I wasn't told not to take a med that would interfere with a test that was being done and then told the test was 'inconclusive.' I was given a med that I told them might be a problem, the side effects were extreme, and I had to go to the pharmacist to get the proof that those were in fact side effects of that drug. Stay far away. I found another doctor.

Listens and was patient. Knowledgeable about my seizures. Ready to help and answer questions. Mayo Clinic referred Dr Kaufman as my local contact. Thank you Mayo.

Dr. Kaufman gave me about 10 minutes of his time. He was condescending and talked down to me. He told me what his diagnosis was and then told me to go home and "google it". The symptoms of that condition were not remotely similar to the symptoms I told him I was having. It was clear he wasn't interested in helping me. After this appointment, I talked to some of my friends and co-workers and found others who had the same experience with Dr. Kaufman so I know I'm not alone. I am now in the process of finding a new neurologist.

This dr is very rude and arrogant. He had no knowledge of the diagnosis we have worked very hard to find. And we know it to be fact. He showed up without my father's file, even though we drove 2 hours to see him. And then had enough gall to give his own diagnosis without any facts to back it up. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this quack.

I had a stroke maybe! It didn't show on cat scan or MRI but all I can say are things are different my thought process is totally different. If I read out loud different words come out than what are on the page. My headache are unbelievable my ability to consintrat is not there. And thank god for spell check. But this doctor will not take the te to listen to me or says that is not possible when I say something is wrong. When asked to give me advise he doesn't say anything or changes subject. He needs to slow down and listen

after being his patient for 12 years i suddenly was without insurance due to job layoff & owed less than $160 on previous bill which i was willing to make small payments. He dropped me as a patient thru the mail, no questions or willingless to work with me in getting me medical help i so desperately needed or working on a payment plan that i could afford.

Convenient location, and the fact that he has, since I saw him last - some 12 years ago - supposedly *learned* more of multiple sclerosis (published several papers, attended several symposia...), led me back to David Kaufman. I have secondary, progressive multiple sclerosis (10 years ago, it was relapsing/remitting - something he was more *comfortable* with, apparently). He read my chart and refused to see me - something that in my lifetime, has NEVER happened. This is a short step from outright discrimination, not directly analogous to, but dangerously close to being refused service at a restaurant. What I have learned, is that Kaufman is still quite weak in terms of his MS knowledge, BUT, will see patients in the early stages since those he can document as "potentially successful treatments" - if his drug therapy in fact works for them, and of course, drug therapy is essentially all there is for an MS patient - you either respond to the ABC drugs (Avonex; Betaseron; Capaxone),… OR, try and realize some degree of success from Rebif, Gelinya, Tysabri - possibly methotrexate or some similar adjunct (I am a high-level professional medical man myself, so I *GET* medical things - and research everything). Kaufman's office is obscenely rude, initially giving no reason for his refusal to see the patient in question, then, over the course of the conversation, revealing EXACTLY why (see above narrative) AND, recommending an alternative (a Dr. Connie Santillan in this case, about whom specific academic and professional information is amusingly hard to find on any website including Healthgrades). If you are a patient with anything more than a basic, straightforward neuro-medical issue free of complexity and offering clear-cut medical resolution (but NOT maintenance therapy - he doesn't like that!), PLEASE save yourself the insult - indeed, humiliation, of contacting this discriminatory, decidedly unfriendly, unwilling and clearly, in terms of advanced medical knowledge, ill equipped office. You WILL be rebuffed and feel defecated on - bet on it. Remember - you are the customer in this equation; your insurance company and you, the payors: A patient is a customer who has the unequivocal right to choose, in the free marketplace, what services he or she wants - AND the provider from which they are to be received. On the flip side, physicians upon graduation, take the Hippocratic oath. Their obligation is to help the patient. It is NOT within their rights or privileges to deny care without satisfactory explanation and on such a completely arbitrary basis. No way........

I had not eaten on the right side of my mouth since Nov 2009. I had 2 mouth surgeries on the lower right side of mouth all to no avail. Dr. Kaufman was recommended to me as he deals with nerve pain in the mouth. He prescribed a medication that has helped quite a bit so far. I had to call his office regarding side effects of the drug and they were very helpful in suggesting another medication to try. I am hopeful that this medication will work as well as the first one.

VERY disappointed. After more than 10 years as a patient, dr kaufman has become rude, short and narrow minded. He no longer listens (or even asks) to all of the symptoms. He has always rushed through appointments but its now become unbearable. It is scheduled for 20 min, it used to take 15 min and now is down to @8 min (only because I asked him some things which bothered him obviously). NO follow up appointment requested. Sadly I have to find another doctor.
