We recently returned to Washington, DC from Europe for my mother’s reverse shoulder replacement surgery with Dr. David Lutton—a procedure she had been holding out for, despite increasing pain and limited mobility. At nearly 91 years old, this wasn’t just a medical appointment—it was a critical window of hope. And what unfolded in the days leading up to surgery was nothing short of extraordinary. Late Tuesday, just before our flight, we learned that the required CT scan had not been completed as prescribed. Without it, Dr. Lutton could not proceed. His schedule was booked solid, and we feared the worst. But we reached out to his office, explained the urgency, and hoped for a miracle. Enter Valerie, Dr. Lutton’s surgical coordinator—and the unsung hero of this story. Valerie and the entire team at Washington Circle Orthopedics sprang into action. While we were boarding our flight Wednesday morning, we received word that they had secured a CT scan appointment in DC the day before… surgery. Valerie instructed us to drop off the CD immediately after the scan so Dr. Lutton could personally review and complete the templating between his other surgeries. The coordination, compassion, and sheer determination of this team were awe-inspiring. The surgery went forward as scheduled, without a hitch. Dr. Lutton’s skill and precision were matched only by the warmth and professionalism of his staff. Today, my mother is recovering beautifully, free from the constant pain that had plagued her for years. She calls it the best birthday gift she could have hoped for. This wasn’t our first experience with Dr. Lutton’s brilliance. Three and a half years ago, he performed a reverse shoulder replacement on my right shoulder and my mother’s left shoulder. Both procedures were flawless, and the outcomes life-changing. That history made it all the more important for us to return to him—and he and his team delivered once again. Dr. Lutton is a marvel—a master of his craft and a deeply compassionate physician. But his staff, especially Valerie, deserve equal praise. They went above and beyond the call of duty, and we are forever grateful. If you’re looking for world-class care delivered with heart, look no further than Dr. Lutton and his team at Washington Circle Orthopedics. They are, quite simply, top drawer.

Dr Lutton and his surgical coordinator is AMAZING!!! It saddens me to have a 2 star rating because of his rude disrespectful and combative staff!!!

Dr. Lutton has been caring for my husband for the past 6 months. He has a phenomenal bedside manner, asks many questions and listens intently. He is doing everything possible to avoid surgery for my husband. We have total confidence in him and have been told by previous patients that he is a magician when performing surgery. We would highly recommend Dr. Lutton.

i am happy with all aspects of Dr. Lutton. He seemed very competent, was recommended by a well known surgeon in New York, had a good sense of humor and listened to and answered all my questions . His office is very difficult and very unhelpful. I found they very frequently switched phones to an a wearing service during office hours and very not helpful at in returning phone calls or emails. An email sent on Sept 16 remains unanswered today Sept 28. Is getting good people at the office that difficult in DC ? Or is it that the docs simply do not care !

dr. lutton was very nice but failed to discern that I had a shoulder separation in addition to a broken shoulder blade. I brought it up to him, but he was pleasantly dismissive. After missing the giant bump on my shoulder, I can't say that I would go back to his office.

He's professional, caring and has a great sense of humor.

As an RN, I am picky when it comes to healthcare. Working with Dr. Lutton was a very positive experience. He is knowledgeable, professional, and personable. He is thorough and he listens. I was VERY pleased!

I recently had a patellar tendon rupture. He was very professional and explained what had happened and what he was going to do. He was confident which put me at ease.He operated on me in an emergency situation. I told him he wasn't part of my insurance plan and after the surgery I would have to go to another doc for follow up. He put me at ease and said he would still see me and would work with me on this issue.

Dr. Lutton repaired arthroscopically my rotator cuff with great surgical skill. There are no visual scars and my right tennis arm is meaner than ever. Dr. Lutton was honest and transparent in his clinical demeanor and provided me with sufficient information regarding my medical problem. I would recommend him to anyone.
